Return to Work Case Manager
Position requires case manager (CM) whose focus is to promote transitional, stay at work activities (pre-claim) and facilitate ADAAA actions for an employer. Responsible for assessment, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of injured/disabled individuals involved in worker’s compensation, short term disability, long term disability or requests for accommodation process. Case manager works as an intermediary between carriers, employer’s human resources group, supervisors, medical care providers, employees to ensure appropriate documentation of the medical status of an employee is available.
Main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Works directly with Employer’s (our customer) Human Resources department, Supervisors, and third party vendors in order to return their employees to work and/or keep employees at work in a safe productive work environment
· Coordinates and facilitates the accommodation process between the employee and employer
· Examines Job Analysis/Job Description’s with the ability to determine essential functions of position as it relates to their abilities vs. impairments
· Interprets treating provider’s restriction and accommodation requests in order to facilitate and negotiate the employee’s return to work plan
· Keeps return to work a priority as a therapeutic goal
· Works with employer to identify and develop transitional/modified duty based on medical limitations and employee’s functional abilities
· Participates in return to work/accommodation meetings with the employer
· Documents and reports all case activity is critical for accurate case management record keeping
· Maintains clinical and administrative records which document communications, decisions, actions, and the basis thereof in an orderly fashion as per set protocols
· Maintains contact with all parties involved to monitor, update and advance case activity to ensure progress of the cases
· Utilizes their expertise in Vocational Rehabilitation/Disability Management and apply their knowledge on a case by case basis
· Keeps abreast of ADAAA regulations, local disability laws, as well as other legislations affecting the rehabilitation field
· Must keep all licenses and certifications valid
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· B.S., B.A., in vocational evaluation, special education, behavioral psychology, or related medical field required. Masters level and/or advanced study strongly preferred or as required by state law.
· Two to five years of providing vocational rehabilitation, nurse case management or other disability management services; knowledge of re-engineering worksite via principals of ergonomics a plus.
· Prior industry-related experience preferred.
· Experience with specific ADAAA and ergonomics will be considered in lieu of certifications or advanced degree
· Certified with one of the following certifications: CCM, CDMS, CRC, RN or state LPC
· At least 3 years of vocational or medical case management experience with return to work experience with noted certifications.
· Background in state workers’ compensation law and practices desirable.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and phone manners. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to set priorities. Ability to work independently. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment. Computer literacy required.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications of Word, Outlook; demonstrability of knowledge using internet browser applications and basics of using computers in a network environment (e.g. connecting to wireless or wired network; Using a VPN; ability to learn web based applications for documentation). Must be able to document one action and account for time involved in activities.
