Financial Accountant
Summary: May perform in one or more of the following Accounting functions such as Reinsurance, Investments, Budget, and Accounts Payable & Receivable. Under general supervision and with independent judgment, prepare month-end and financial statements, apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compile, analyze, and maintain supporting documentation of:
- Financial information to prepare journal entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts.
- Financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, in preparation or reconciliation of balance sheet and adjusting entries, profit and loss statement, and other reports that summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.
- Month-end files for reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and adjusting entries.
- Reconcile and maintain supporting documentation for accounts of varying degrees of complexity such as bank accounts, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, prepaid assets, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assume responsibility for balance sheet accounts, including reconciliation and work-paper support.
- Determine proper handling of financial transactions and approve transactions within designated limits.
- Prepare month-end adjustments and financial statements.
- Monitor compliance with statutory accounting principles and company procedures.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Collect data or coordinate preparation of federal, state, and local reports and tax returns including research of changes in requirements.
- May coordinate annual budget cycle and prepare budget reports.
- Assist in preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements.
- Run and balance financial statements and other reporting through use of accounting reporting tools.
- May serve as a contributing member to project team(s), or leader of project team(s), coordinating resources to ensure achievement of project activities.
- May provide leadership to junior staff through guidance and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
Level 5: Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
