Host/Hostess - Restaurant
Position Summary: The Host/Hostess is the first point of contact for guests at the restaurant, responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere, managing seating arrangements, and ensuring attentive service from the moment guests arrive. This role requires excellent communication skills, a friendly demeanor, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guest Greeting and Reception: Warmly welcome guests, providing a positive first impression, and informing them of wait times and seating options.
- Seating Management: Efficiently manage the seating chart to ensure optimal table occupancy and escort guests to their tables, presenting menus and specials.
- Reservation Management: Handle reservations and maintain accurate records, monitoring guest flow to minimize wait times during peak periods.
- Communication with Staff: Serve as a liaison between guests and staff, relaying special requests and feedback to ensure smooth service.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the host area and entrance clean and organized, assisting in clearing and resetting tables.
- Guest Interaction: Engage with guests to ensure satisfaction, promptly addressing any concerns and providing information about menu items and restaurant policies.
- Handling Payments: Assist guests with the payment process, including splitting bills, while maintaining accurate cash handling.
- Monitoring Dining Experience: Observe guests during their meal, proactively addressing any issues and coordinating with servers to check on guests' needs.
- Compliance with Health and Safety Standards: Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring cleanliness and proper food handling.
- Compliance with Policies and Procedures: Follow all hotel and restaurant policies, including health and safety guidelines and dress code requirements, maintaining a professional appearance.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the restaurant team to enhance guest experiences and assist team members during busy times.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks assigned by management and participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Qualifications: Previous experience as a host/hostess or in customer service is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with a friendly, outgoing personality and a commitment to excellent guest service. Candidates must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and work efficiently. Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required. Food Handler and Alcohol Server Certifications (or the ability to obtain them upon hire) is also required.
- Work Environment: The Host/Hostess will primarily work in the restaurant area, with some outdoor exposure. This role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
