Director of Data

The Director of Data plays a critical role on our technology leadership team and will shape SunStream’s data strategy and ongoing efforts to leverage data as value to our customer’s business.  

Responsibilities

Data Strategy Development: Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the organization's overall goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for data-driven insights and recommend innovative solutions for data acquisition, integration, storage, and analysis.

Data Lake House Medallion Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of a robust Medallion Lake House architecture, leveraging Databricks services and technologies.

Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, privacy, and security. Define data standards, data quality metrics, and data management best practices. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Data Integration and Management: Oversee the development and implementation of data integration processes, ensuring seamless data flow across various systems and applications. Manage the organization's data repositories and data catalog, ensuring data is properly organized, accessible, and well-documented.

Data Analysis and Insights: Drive the adoption of advanced data analytics techniques to extract valuable insights from large datasets. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify key business questions and provide data-driven recommendations to drive decision-making and improve operational efficiency.

Team Leadership and Development: Build and lead a high-performing data team, providing mentorship and guidance to team members. Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the data team, promoting professional growth and knowledge sharing.

Vendor Management: Evaluate and manage relationships with external data vendors, ensuring their services align with the organization's requirements and standards. Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies in data management and analytics.

Requirements
•    Bachelor's degree in computer science, data management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
•    Proven experience (1-5 years) in a similar role, leading data management and analytics initiatives.
•    Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Databricks services and technologies, particularly in designing and implementing  Data Lake House Medallion architectures.
•    In-depth understanding of data governance, data integration, and data management best practices.
•    Proven capability in data analysis, data visualization, and statistical modeling techniques.
•    Understanding of regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security.
•    Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
•    Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to work effectively across multiple departments and stakeholders.
