Systems Engineer Role
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Systems Engineer administers and maintains the components that make up SunStream’s systems by monitoring and maintaining servers, connectivity devices and cloud platforms. Under general supervision, engages in the design and building of new systems as directed. Ensures proper configuration and uses best practices to implement changes to the environment upon approval. Must be proficient in Active Directory, Entra ID and the M365 stack.
Job Functions
System Administration and Maintenance
- Recommends policies and procedures to ensure System components are functioning properly
- Performs day-to-day maintenance as necessary or scheduled, sometimes during non-business hours
- Ensures proper system backups and procedures are followed
- Maintains and supports third-party applications running on SunStream infrastructure and/or in a cloud environment
- Deploys software updates
- Analyzes and resolves technical problems for established Systems
System Design
- Performs the installation, layout, and maintenance of assigned application and system components
- Consults with users, evaluates requirements, provides cost estimates, plans small projects or components of larger projects, and coordinates tasks for installation of data systems
System Implementation
- Tests and implements server infrastructure and software to maintain system integrity and effectiveness
- Installs, upgrades, and configures System printing, directory structures, user access, security, software, and file services
- Establishes user profiles, user environments, directories, and security for Systems being installed
- Provides System documentation to System users and programmers
Helpline Support
- Provides System support for complex, elevated user problems (tier 3) as needed
- May assist Helpline personnel in resolving tier 1 or 2 System issues, as requested
- Provides support in a rotating on-call 24/7 environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in computer science or related field
- 4+ year of related experience
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE or MCSA or both)
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Working knowledge and experience in the M365 stack
- Working knowledge of On Premise Microsoft Systems and Technologies
- Working knowledge of a hybrid environment
- Skill in installing, administering and configuring various platforms and systems
- Skill in listening and conveying awareness of a customer's problem or issue to find resolution
- Skill in analyzing information to formulate logical and objective conclusions
- Oral and written communication skills, sufficient to exchange information effectively with peers, supervisor and customers
- Skill in planning and coordinating projects
- Responsible to appropriately protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of SunStream and client systems and data
