This is a full-time position located in the Food and Beverage Department having variable/flexible working hours to include weekends, holidays, evenings, and overtime as required. This is a promotional opportunity. Benefits may be offered after successful completion of a sixty (60) day introductory period. Job Description:
The Cook is responsible for the preparation of food for guests. The Cook is also responsible for sanitation, upkeep of the food service/culinary dept., and making sure that all food safety and quality standards are followed.
Plan, prep, set up and provide quality service in all areas of food production for menu items and specials in the designated outlets in accordance with standards and plating guide specifications. Maintain organization, cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment. Ensure the culinary team has all the required tools to carry out their responsibilities. Assist and provide direction to all cooks under their supervision and maintain the hotel’s culture and standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of Memphis and Shelby County health codes; ability to bake and cook a variety of food; some Catering or Banquet Food production experience is needed; demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of proper techniques for food preparation; ability to accurately handle money and cash transactions; skill to operate and clean various restaurant equipment; ability to work quickly and accurately under constant pressure of often conflicting deadlines and numerous interruptions; ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity; organizational skills to determine workload in a timely manner; must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy during discussions with individuals; some knowledge of catering helpful.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to stoop, reach, walk and stand for long periods of time; ability to lift boxes weighing up to 50lbs; speak clearly and distinctly.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Uniform is required; hair net must be worn; must follow and have knowledge of health codes and requirements.
