Accounting - Task Force Controller

Location: Remote, open only to candidates residing in Arizona or California, with required travel based on hotel openings, task force needs, and assigned projects.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
Job Overview:
As a Task Force Controller at Ensemble, you will provide crucial financial leadership across our entire hotel portfolio. This remote position offers the flexibility to work from home but is limited to candidates based in Arizona or California only. The role requires significant travel to support hotel openings, task force needs, and financial projects. You will oversee financial operations, ensure accurate reporting, and step in as interim controller at various properties. When not assigned to a specific property, the Task Force Controller will provide support to the company on various projects and/or other assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight: Manage accounting functions, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for assigned hotels.
- Task Force Assignments: Serve as interim controller at Ensemble properties during vacancies, transitions, openings, or urgent projects.
- Hotel Openings: Assist in setting up financial systems and training staff during new hotel openings.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Cash & Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Prepare and reconcile all cash and balance sheets in a timely manner.
- Journal Entries & Accruals: Prepare and post journal entries and accruals related to payroll, utilities, and direct expenses.
- Tax Preparation: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual occupancy, sales, and use tax filings for hotels.
- Reconciliation: Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and imbalances across properties.
- Internal Auditing: Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations, conducting audits, as necessary.
- Training & Controls: Train and monitor hotel staff on financial and cash controls, ensuring compliance and minimizing liabilities and losses.
- General Ledger & Month-End Close: Oversee general ledger functions and ensure accurate and timely month-end/year-end closing processes.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Train, monitor, and coordinate the implementation of financial controls across departments.
- Collaborate with hotel General Managers, property financial teams, and Corporate Finance to maintain accurate records and controls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a hotel controller or director of finance, with multi-property oversight preferred.
- Experience with Profit Sage preferred but not required.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, including the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry.
- Strong experience in cash and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Proficiency in general ledger functions, month-end/year-end closing processes, and financial reporting.
- Experience preparing and filing occupancy, sales, and use tax returns.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
- Proficiency in financial software systems (e.g., PVNG, Profit Sage, Opera).
Travel Requirements:
- Must be based in Arizona or California and able to travel as needed. This position requires travel to support task force assignments, hotel openings, and other projects across Ensemble’s hotel portfolio (50-75% travel).
