General Accounting Manager
Company Description
The General Accounting Manager is responsible for tracking, monitoring and evaluating day-to-day accounting tasks and activities. These tasks are essential to ensure the company’s performance and success. The General Accounting Manager is responsible for the provision of general ledgers, records, and financial reports, and the performance of general bookkeeping, can contributing to successful month and quarter closing of accounting books. The General Accounting Manager performs activities related to accounts payable including reviewing for proper coding, as well as weekly process of AP check runs. The General Accounting Manager performs billing activities which include invoice generation and revenue coding. The Accounting Manager also monitors the Credit Memo process, confirming they are properly documented, and determining the most accurate coding and processing treatment. Supervises and directs accounting professionals and support staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises staff to ensure efficient execution of team responsibilities and contributes to career growth of staff
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
- Help with quarterly and year-end financial audit activities and the annual corporate financial controls audit
- Assess current practices and procedures, and make recommendations for improvements
- Prepare and book journal entries related to prepaid assets, maintaining detail schedules, and completes corresponding reconciliations
- Research and book journal entries for month end operating expense accruals
- Prepares and books monthly journal to reserve for bad debts, and quarterly, analyzes bad debt allowance for adequacy
- Maintain client Credit Memo process, including confirming proper documentation, and determining correct accounting treatment when processing the Credit Memo
- Manage accounts payable process, review AP batches for proper coding, monitor system to ensure timely approval from purchasing party, and process of weekly AP check runs
- Ensure that all deadlines are met in accordance with closing dates set by management
- Work closely with other Empyrean departments to facilitate open communications, to achieve department and company goals
- Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested
- Supervise and/or manage general ledger accounting functions
- Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of the organization
- Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
- Advanced computer skills on MS Office, including Microsoft Excel, and Dynamics General Ledger
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
- High attention to detail and accuracy
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred but not required
- In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, equivalent years of experience in business analytics, accounting, finance or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
