Role:

The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain the credit union's accounting records and reports, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as specific credit union accounting practices. This role involves a blend of detailed analysis, reconciliation, and collaboration with various departments to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting.

 

Location: Our headquarters are based in Syracuse, NY. We work in a Hybrid Model requiring a minimum of 5 days in office per month.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

 25%    Journal Preparation and Review:

- Prepare journal entries for assigned tasks and general ledger accounts.

- Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.

- Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues promptly.

- Provide cash reconciliations to Internal Audit on a regular basis.

 

25%     Month-End/Year End Close & Financial Statement Review

- Assist in the month-end/year-end close process by collaborating with team members to

  complete all assigned tasks within established deadlines.

- Perform detailed expenditure analysis upon request, adhering to NCUA guidelines.

- Review chart of accounts for completeness and accuracy.

 

20%     General Ledger Analysis:

- Perform, develop and prepare account analysis of various general ledger accounts. 

- Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned for management review.

- Perform detailed expenditure analysis upon request, adhering to NCUA guidelines.

- Collaborate with departments to address discrepancies and enhance balancing efficiencies.

 

20%     Capital Expenditure Management:

- Provide details as requested by VPs & Financial Analysts on capital expenditures.

- Responsible for fixed assets and prepaid expenses analysis, preparation and inputting into accounting software.

-Review fixed assets and prepaid expenses schedules quarterly to ensure all items are still active.

 

10%      Audit Contribution:

- Assist in the preparation for internal and external audit.

- Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Performance Measurements:

 

  1. See Dayforce (HRIS) Performance Management for Goals upon start in role, and annually.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: 1 to 3 years of professional accounting experience is required, with a focus on management of general ledger, capital expenditures, and account analysis and reconciliation.

 

Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required for this role.

 

Interpersonal Skills: Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

 

 Other Skills:  

- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 360 software is essential for data management and reporting.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration and presentation of financial information.

- Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and assignments efficiently.

- Effective decision-making and problem-solving abilities are crucial for addressing challenges that arise in financial operations.

- Maintain a high standard of professionalism in appearance, demeanor, and interactions with colleagues and clients.

- Adherence to all credit union and departmental training requirements is essential to ensure knowledge of current practices and regulations.
