JOB SUMMARY:

The Commercial Engine Project Manager II will manage post sale projects for designated departments; such as mining, data centers and healthcare. Maintain the projected profit level by preventing cost overrun, sticking to approved budget estimates and recommending accurate changes. Manage procurement and execution of post sale projects for Empire through organized client communication, and scheduling with internal clients. Coordinate assigned activities for vendors involved in procurement, handling, assembly, fabrication, testing, delivery, invoicing, installation and start up of projects.  Ensure project accuracy, all design-engineering specifications, product procurement, drawing accuracy, and assembly instructions with assistance from engineering team as appropriate.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Review client specifications, proposal, and bill of materials thoroughly, to understand project details and ensure required information is present. Recommend accurate changes, additions or deletions to satisfy client requirements while maximizing project profitability.
  • Create, maintain, and complete electronic project records using various internal Project Management software. Ensure all important documentation and conversation related to assigned project is captured within the designated project record.
  • Prepare Caterpillar engine orders for transmission to CAT and identify inventory units which will fill the project engine requirements. Maintain communication with Sales Coordinators regarding engine order acceptance, any order related problems, Release to Ship (RTS) , and scheduled deliveries.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials, purchase specifications, Requests for Quote (RFQs) and create/issue Purchase Orders for all allied equipment required to outfit engines to meet client specifications.
  • Prepare all necessary project timelines to establish material ordering, receiving, assembly, testing and delivery deadlines.
  • Ensure Application Engineer prepares all required project submittals, as required by specification, to submit to client/engineer for equipment approval. 
  • Prepare and issue Service Instruction documents to the Service and Parts Departments. 
  • Manage internal costs and review internal work orders for adherence to agree upon costs.
  • Act as a liaison to the Engine Inventory Administrator to maintain inventory and prepare required Invoicing Cost Estimates at time of delivery to ensure project gross profit accuracy.
  • Identify, communicate, and ensure credit of all internal engine discount programs.
  • Assists in preparation of all necessary drawings, wiring diagrams, etc. for including in submittals. Obtain necessary allied/vendor cut sheets, drawings, and diagrams, as necessary for submittal.
  • Negotiate project additions for any equipment or installation service requirement, as necessary.
  • Understand and support site commissioning and IST (Integrated Systems Testing) activities.
  • Independently conduct site meetings and support factory witness testing and quality control audits
  • Provide mentorship to designated team members.
  • Provide presales support for account managers. 
  • Works safely at all times.  Adheres to all applicable safety policies.  Complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assists Construction Project Manager in completion of onsite work and coordination of service/contractor personnel.
  • Always maintain a high level of organization, especially in relation to paperwork, information, and products.
  • Attend sales and project meetings as needed.
  • Review Account Managers’ quotes and Bill of Materials to help ensure compliance with specifications and requirements.
  • Assist Commercial Engineer in completion of all required submittal or Operation & Maintenance documents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Commercial Engine Operations Manager.
  • Ability to travel for projects to 25% of the time.
  • Works within and promotes corporate values.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of power generation equipment and its applications, including commercial, industrial and marine engine and gensets.
  • Must be willing and able to take initiative and control to protect the interests of our clients.
  • Must be willing and able to continually learn new products, features, maintenance, and installation of equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout designated territory and stay overnight if required.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical and architectural engineering drawings.
  • High degree of time management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities and projects at once.
  • High degree of communication and interpersonal skills to work with clients, vendors, and influence others.
  • Some degree of technical competency in electrical and mechanical applications. Ability to understand electrical and mechanical concepts.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as averages, future costs, percentages, and gross profit.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical), Business Administration (Supply Chain, Operations Management) or similar field and/or equivalent experience or minimum 5 years related experience may be substituted for college degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in managing multiple complex projects at same time.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Valid CDL if required by position.
  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
