JOB SUMMARY:
Perform dispatcher duties for Empire’s assigned work area. Distributing work to Empire drivers, scheduling equipment deliveries/pickups, and monitoring all drivers within assigned region. Use discretion and judgment to solve client disputes and dispatch system problems. Professionally assist clients to enhance a positive service image within the department. Determine shipment, delivery and pickup priorities. Oversee scheduling transport shipments and meet delivery commitments. Assist in the most efficient use of drivers and equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Dispatch Empire trucks locally, statewide, branch-store and/or nationally for assigned work area.
- Assign tractors and trailers according to the type of load, point of origin, and destination.
- Monitor drivers’ activities and offer assistance as needed.
- Monitor communications between the clients and drivers for assigned work area.
- Communicate with clients to schedule loads.
- Assist in quoting hauls and reviewing the client billing, ensuring the billed amount equals the quoted amount.
- Keep track of all hauls and document all related activities.
- Know and recognize state licensing and registration laws and insurance requirements.
- Maintain communication with the shop personnel and know what equipment is available for service.
- Helps maintain safety and compliance records such as Daily Vehicle Inspections and Annual Inspections.
- Communicate with clients to schedule loads.
- Communicate Empire’s safety policies and expectations and promote corporate values.
- Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies. Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
- May assist permit & escort coordinator.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to understand and effectively manage and communicate the transportation dispatching process.
- Must be able to read, interpret, understand, and use technical and contractual trucking related documents including; rate schedules and regulations for transporting parts and machines.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years of dispatching-related experience.
- Previous experience trucking dispatching preferred.
- Experience interpreting, understanding and using transportation documents.
- Experience in ordering Oversize/Overweight permits and escorts.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
