Position Overview:

The Controls Engineering Intern will support the Controls Engineering team in the development, testing, and optimization of control systems for manufacturing processes and equipment. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in control system design, programming, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control System Design: Assist in designing control systems for automation and manufacturing processes, including developing system specifications and selecting appropriate hardware and software components.
  • Programming: Support the development and programming of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and other control system components.
  • System Testing: Participate in testing and validation of control systems, including developing and executing test plans to ensure system functionality and performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Assist in troubleshooting control system issues, including diagnosing and resolving problems with hardware and software.
  • Documentation: Help create and maintain technical documentation for control systems, including system diagrams, configuration files, and user manuals.
  • Optimization: Contribute to the optimization of control systems to improve performance, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Project Support: Assist with project planning and coordination, including tracking progress, preparing reports, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Research and Development: Support R&D activities by exploring new control technologies and methods, and providing insights based on research and testing.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Basic understanding of control systems, PLC programming, and automation technologies. Familiarity with control system software (e.g., RSLogix, Wonderware) and hardware is a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in designing, programming, and testing control systems.
  • Communication Skills: Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with control system simulation tools or programming languages (e.g., C++, Python) is a plus.
  • Learning Orientation: A strong willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in controls engineering.
