Job Overview: As an Engineering Co-Op at Detroit Manufacturing Systems, you will embark on a valuable and immersive learning journey within our tier-1 automotive manufacturing company. This co-op program offers you the opportunity to work alongside our engineering professionals, gaining hands-on experience in various engineering disciplines, contributing to real-world projects, and applying your academic knowledge to help drive our organization's success.

 

Responsibilities:

 

1. Project Support:

  • Work on specific engineering projects and assignments aligned with your academic and career goals.
  • Assist in project planning, design, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones and objectives.

2. Technical Analysis:

  • Conduct technical research and analysis to support engineering projects.
  • Utilize engineering principles and software tools to solve complex problems.
  • Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and presentations.

3. Design and Prototyping:

  • Participate in the design and prototyping of automotive components or systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers to create CAD models, prototypes, and test plans.
  • Assist in testing and validation activities to ensure design integrity.

4. Process Improvement:

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance manufacturing processes, efficiency, and quality.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing efforts.

5. Collaboration and Learning:

  • Collaborate with experienced engineers, mentors, and peers.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and technical discussions.
  • Seek guidance and proactively engage in learning opportunities.

 

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in an accredited engineering program at a college or university.
  • Pursuing a degree related to the co-op program's focus (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, etc.).
  • Strong academic performance and a passion for engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and eager to tackle engineering challenges.

 

Preferred Qualities:

  • Previous internship or relevant coursework in engineering.
  • Familiarity with engineering software and tools.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Involvement in engineering-related projects or extracurricular activities.
  • Clear career goals and a desire to excel in the engineering field.
