FWS Student Worker III, Off Campus (Teacher's Assistant Reading Tutor)

OPPORTUNITY:

• Administrative support role for currently enrolled students. 
• This is an off campus Federal Work Study Position OR Tutor role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Community:

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate intern to join our team as a Teacher's Assistant Reading Tutor for elementary-aged students at Arise Community Outreach. This work-study position focuses on assisting and tutoring students with reading, helping them develop essential literacy skills and a love for learning. This is a part-time position up to 25 hours per week, during the school year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the lead teacher in daily classroom activities and instructional support.
• Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions focused on reading and literacy.
• Help students improve their reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.
• Support students with their assigned reading curriculum and homework.
• Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
• Assist in preparing and organizing reading materials and resources.
• Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to the lead teacher.
• Participate in classroom management and ensure a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere.
• Engage in training and professional development opportunities as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the lead teacher or school administration.

• Must be an enrolled student at DeVry University.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a current student in good standing and possess a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester.
• FWS fund eligible.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-directed, motivated individuals.
• People who sit around, waiting to be told what to do will not do well in this environment.
• Strong reading and literacy skills.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a tutor or teaching assistant.
• Knowledge of effective reading instruction strategies and techniques.
• Experience with diverse student populations.
