Assistant Controller
The Assistant Controller ensures that the routine operations of the accounting department are performed accurately and on a timely basis. This includes monitoring and reviewing the recording day-to-day transactions, account reconciliations and monthly close while maintaining a high-level of accuracy and compliance with internal controls.

- People Manager – At CSBS, people managers lead and engage staff to maximize organizational performance. People managers actively participate in the growth and development of their teams – delegating responsibility effectively and providing timely and actionable feedback on performance. Responsible for planning and organizing their team’s activity, people managers are also responsible for creating a positive employee experience while developing high-performing and innovative teams.
- Manage, mentor, and supervise two staff accountants to include but not limited to handling employee relations and performing annual performance appraisals.
- Serve as secondary business owner for CSBS financial management system.
- Supervises and ensures timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing of the general ledger.
- Provide instruction to staff on how to handle non-routine/complex transactions.
- Reviews all reconciliations to ensure the proper accounting and recognition.
- Oversee and process bi-monthly payroll runs.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
- Collaborate with the Controller and Senior Financial Analyst to prepare the organization’s annual budget.
- Assist the Controller in monitoring the accounting team’s workload to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources.
- Manage preparation and review PBC work papers and reconciliations for the annual external audit, 401K audit, workmen’s compensation audit, and others.
- Research FASB codification and apply technical accounting to ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Maintain, improve, identify, and implement opportunities for process improvement while maintaining internal controls.
- Collaborate with and serve as a resource for internal customers while understanding their business needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist the Controller with financial analysis with various projects.
- Serve as an integral part of the Front-Line Managers team.
Minimum Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification required.
- Minimum of 9 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including public accounting experience and at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Multiple years of experience with Oracle NetSuite required, including knowledge of system integrations.
- Demonstrated experience with integrating and implementing financial management systems.
- Proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and other financial applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and not-for-profit accounting standards.
- Familiarity with accounting policies, procedures, and systems utilized within the department.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis.
- Exceptional analytical skills paired with outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Proven supervisory skills with a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, self-starter mindset.
- Solid data management expertise with a focus on accuracy and reliability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
