Director, Technical Field Operations
Summary:
The Director of Technical Field Operations will oversee the comprehensive management of C360 systems at scale. This role includes training and development of contracted technical crews, ensuring flawless field execution, and collaborating effectively with the C360 operations team to guarantee event success. Reporting directly to the VP of Video Technology, this pivotal position will support the C360 production unit, manage technical field deployment, and work closely with multiple departments to achieve our objectives. These teams handle the daily planning and execution of thousands of live events annually for both linear and immersive partners.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized professional with a strong background in technical management within live broadcast environments. Attention to detail, multitasking ability, efficient time management, and problem-solving skills are essential. The candidate must be self-motivated, excel in communication, and thrive in a team setting. Problem-solving and prioritization will be critical to success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the global deployment of C360 systems, managing technical leads and installation technicians across multiple regions.
- Supervise the technical setup and execution of numerous live events annually, collaborating with linear broadcast partners.
- Lead the technical planning, management, and tracking of live shows within the Cosm C360 umbrella.
- Manage day-to-day technical operations of live production, working closely with partners and clients through all phases to ensure show success.
- Supervise contractors and liaise with in-house engineers for on-site installations and operations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and clients to effectively communicate needs and goals.
- Provide input on technical resource planning and budgeting for future technology R&D related to C360 deployment and live broadcast needs.
- Collaborate with Production Management to ensure all shows are executed as planned.
- Contribute to crew staffing, resource planning, and training, including for remote events and shoots.
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- 7+ years of experience in technical management/field operations preferably in sports, TV, or the broadcast industry.
- Proven track record in technical management and field operations, including overseeing live productions and building teams for large-scale projects.
- Strong knowledge of video routing, switching, shading, power, fiber/cabling, and streaming for effective event planning and troubleshooting.
- Ability to manage multiple unique projects in various stages of production across different time zones.
- Flexibility with working hours, including nights and weekends.
- Willingness to travel on-site with the crew to ensure success.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with a diplomatic approach to challenging projects.
- Quick to adapt to new technology and systems.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and stay calm under pressure.
