Job Overview:
The Country Manager – China is responsible for driving business development, executing the country-specific strategy, and expanding Cooper Machinery Services’ market presence in China. This role will lead commercial operations, develop strong customer relationships, and ensure profitable growth while aligning with global corporate objectives.
The Country Manager will work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, operations, and service teams to build a robust pipeline, manage P&L for the country, and enhance Cooper Machinery Services' footprint in the gas compression and reciprocating equipment market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Growth & Business Development
- Develop and execute a China-specific commercial strategy, focusing on expanding sales, market share, and service operations.
- Identify and capitalize on business opportunities in natural gas compression, production facilities, and oil & gas infrastructure sectors.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key accounts, distributors, and industry stakeholders.
- Evaluate market trends, customer needs, and regulatory landscapes to drive Cooper’s long-term positioning in China.
- Drive contract negotiations, pricing strategies, and partnership agreements to ensure sustainable growth.
Sales & Commercial Leadership
- Own the P&L responsibility for Cooper Machinery Services in China, ensuring revenue growth and profitability.
- Work closely with the EH leadership team to align sales efforts with regional and global objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of sales professionals, technical specialists, and account managers.
- Develop and execute customer engagement plans for key accounts, ensuring high customer satisfaction and retention.
- Support sales teams in preparing bids, proposals, and commercial agreements that align with Cooper’s value proposition.
Operational Execution & Market Expansion
- Oversee after-sales support to ensure excellence in customer service and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, supply chain) to deliver customer-centric solutions.
- Ensure compliance with Chinese regulatory requirements, safety standards, and Cooper Machinery Services’ policies.
- Partner with the Cooper global supply chain and operations team to localize manufacturing, service, and parts distribution strategies.
Financial Performance & Reporting
- Establish and monitor KPIs, sales targets, and operational metrics to ensure performance excellence.
- Provide monthly country business reviews, including financial performance, sales pipeline updates, and market trends.
- Identify and drive cost optimization and efficiency initiatives to enhance profitability.
- Support the regional and global finance teams in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for China operations.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Educational Qualification: MBA or equivalent advanced degree in Engineering, Management, Business, or a related field.
- Extensive Sales Leadership Experience: A minimum of 7 years of experience in sales account management and/or commercial leadership roles.
- Industry-Specific Experience: A strong preference for at least 5 years of experience in the gas compression sector.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth working understanding of high and low speed engine-compressor product lines, including Ajax, CAT, Clark, Cooper Bessemer, Enterprise, IR, Superior Waukesha, Worthington.
- Proven Track Record in Growth Strategy Implementation: Demonstrable experience in successfully implementing growth strategies, with a clear record of achieving turnaround and substantial growth in previous roles.
- Market Analysis and Strategic Planning: Strong skills in conducting comprehensive market analysis and strategic planning to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities.
- Team Leadership and Development: Proven capability in building, motivating, and leading a team to achieve exceptional results in a growth-focused environment.
- Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of financial management with experience in driving revenue growth and improving the overall financial health of a region or business unit.
