CardWorks Servicing ("CWS") is one of the largest privately-held provider of outsourcing services for bankcard-related products to banks and non-bank lenders in North America. CWS offers management expertise across the credit spectrum and supports both MasterCard and Visa accounts as well as a variety of private label debit, credit, stored value, and customer bankcards.

The Tax Accountant II assists the Vice President of Tax with the management of the tax function for all of CardWorks’ entities.  This role is responsible for assisting with the coordination of preparing all domestic income, franchise and other returns and related reports to ensure organizational compliance with all federal, state and local tax laws and regulations. This role is also responsible for assisting with minimizing the effective tax rate and cash taxes through sound and informed application of tax laws and regulations, and for determining the tax consequences (financial statement and tax return) of past or proposed transactions and will have contact with all levels of management as well as customers, federal, state and local tax authorities and independent accountants.

Please note that this role can be considered as a Senior Tax Accountant based on candidate experience and the posted salary range adjusted accordingly.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Prepares the federal, state and local income/franchise returns; and prepares/assists with sales/use tax returns, and business licenses
  • Helps determine tax compliance requirements and formulation of policies and procedures to meet those requirements in the most efficient manner
  • Coordinates all income, franchise, and sales/use audits
  • Prepares domestic income tax provision processes (ASC 740) including calculation of current and deferred taxes, effective tax rate, determination and documentation of uncertain tax positions, related journal entries and review of tax account reconciliations
  • Helps implement internal tax controls
  • Reviews domestic tax results to develop and implement strategies to lower the effective tax rate
  • Assists with domestic tax planning opportunities, including holding company and other structures
  • Provides guidance to payroll on withholding tax, employment tax and domestic tax credit calculations
  • Assists with acquisition and dispositions including advising on proper tax or legal entity structures and related financial statement impacts
  • Drafts and/or interprets tax contract language regarding business transactions
  • Consults on outsourcing engagement for any income & non income tax return preparation.
  • Assists with transfer pricing compliance & external annual TP studies
  • Participates in the strategic planning process by preparing forecasts and plans for minimizing taxes and tax compliance costs consistent with overall corporate objectives
  • Assists with the review of taxes by the external auditors
  • Prepares internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnished external reports as necessary
  • Works closely with other department groups on problems involving tax related matters and financial planning.
  • Assists with escheatment process and tax form filings for all required states
  • Performs other responsibilities include seeing that company policy is carried out.

 

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors in Accounting, Taxation or Finance is required.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in tax, tax compliance and or provision is required
  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA is preferred
  • Knowledge of credit card servicing and consumer lending related business is a plus
