Specialist I - NE, Compliance
This role supports the overall direction of the compliance activities of Merrick Bank Corporation (the “Bank”). This position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the Bank’s compliance training program and complaint management program. This person will also assist in compliance processes related to affiliate monitoring, risk management, regulatory change management, and the investigation of potential suspicious activity as part of the Bank’s BSA program. The primary duties are listed below.
Essential Functions:
As directed by Compliance Management and/or Chief Compliance Officer:
- Assist in the overall implementation of the Bank’s Compliance Management System.
- Provide ongoing administration of the Bank’s compliance training program and management of training courses in the online learning management system. Create necessary reporting to provide insights to Bank Management, and to ensure general compliance with regulatory training requirements.
- Assist in the development of training materials to provide employees with accurate, precise, and effective regulatory training. Tailor the content and presentation of trainings based upon regulatory requirements, business processes, and industry trends.
- Participate in the effective management of complaints at the Bank, including intake and management of consumer complaints and related regulatory inquiries, as well as coordination with various business units and management to ensure effective identification, analysis, and resolution of complaints.
- Assist in managing compliance programs related to Regulation W, Regulation O, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Perform investigations into potential suspicious activity. Prepare Suspicious Activity Reports to be filed with the appropriate regulatory agencies. Retain all needed records of suspicious activity investigations, Document investigations in the system of record.
- Perform administrative duties related to issues oversight and compliance findings (e.g., record maintenance, stakeholder notifications, etc.)
- Assist with impact assessments for regulatory changes and coordination of response across multiple lines of business.
- Assist with the management of compliance risk assessments – report preparation, stakeholder communications, and maintenance of records
- Maintain compliance related policies and procedures to ensure continued applicability and accuracy.
- Report to the Chief Compliance Officer on any suspect violations of law, regulations or non-compliance to Company policy and take responsibility to ensure resolution.
- Assist in preparing material and resources for regulatory examinations.
- Demonstrate an ability to adapt to any changes in the regulatory environment.
- Perform other compliance related duties as assigned by Compliance Management and/or Chief Compliance Officer.
Compliance with Laws & Regulations:
- Responsible for complying with all of the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
- Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.
Education and Experience:
- 1-3 years of progressive compliance and regulatory banking experience or equivalent educational or banking experience.
- Experience in Workday or similar learning management system preferred.
- Preference given to candidates with Compliance and regulatory banking experience in consumer credit cards.
Summary of Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of banking laws and regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; present ideas in a clear, concise, understandable, and organized manner.
- Effective planning, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure. Skilled at handling a variety of assignments simultaneously. Flexibility and willingness to work at a rapid pace in strict time frames.
- Professional demeanor and appearance are necessary. Exhibit diplomacy and patience when dealing with co-workers and others.
- Ability to work independently and without direct or continuous supervisory support.
