Accountant I (Settlement), Merchant Accounting
At Merrick Bank, our mission is to provide exceptional service to our Independent Sales Organizations (ISO) clients to give them the competitive edge in the Acquiring industry to help expand their portfolio. The Merchant Accountant I (Settlement) position is responsible for the daily and monthly reconciliation that ensures that the settlement to merchants and statements to ISOs are being done accurately and timely. This position is an excellent opportunity to understand the full circle of a credit card transaction, work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and being involved in learning new processes within the Merchant Accounting group.
Essential Functions:
- Reconciles and clears for various general ledger accounts. Understands how various general ledger accounts work and researches outages in a timely manner.
- Enters daily journal entries into Oracle Cloud. Ensure all proper approvals are received and appropriate backup is attached.
- Completes a variety of daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.
- Assists in the month-end closing process to ensure all deadlines are met on time and reports/schedules are distributed to the appropriate people when applicable.
Compliance with Laws & Regulations:
- Responsible for complying with all of the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
- Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.
Education and Experience:
- Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
Summary of Qualifications:
- Experience with, and demonstrated skill at, the following computer applications: Word Processing, Spreadsheets (Excel preferred), Accounting software (preferably Oracle Financials), E-mail, and Database software.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with all departments in the Bank.
- Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
