Position Summary:
The HIPAA Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures within ClearWellness to ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), safeguarding patient health information (PHI) by conducting risk assessments, monitoring data access, investigating potential breaches, and educating staff on privacy practices.
This is a Remote/Work from Home position reporting to the Senior Vice President of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance.
What you will do:
- Develop, review, and update HIPAA compliance policies and procedures aligned with current regulations.
- Establishes, reviews, revises and communicates written compliance policies and procedures to all staff members.
- Conducts regular audits and risk assessments to identify compliance gaps or potential HIPAA vulnerabilities and implements corrective actions.
- Implement appropriate safeguards to mitigate identified risks, including technical, physical, and administrative controls.
- Monitors compliance, investigates incidents of suspected or reported HIPAA breaches and reports breaches as necessary in accordance with Federal and State Laws and according to HIPPA guidelines.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive HIPAA training programs for all staff members.
- Conduct regular training updates to keep staff informed about HIPAA regulations and best practices.
- Monitor compliance activities and ensure ongoing adherence to HIPAA standards.
- Review contracts with third-party vendors who access PHI to ensure they comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, IT staff, legal counsel, and senior management to address HIPAA concerns and implement compliance strategies.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Previous Experience as a HIPAA Compliance Officer.
- Deep understanding of HIPAA regulations, including Privacy Rule, Security Rule, and Enforcement Rule.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address potential compliance risks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train staff and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Legal knowledge and ability to interpret complex regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills, self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a high-quality results-driven, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use discretion, make sound decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient in MS Office, modern communication tools for virtual teams (i.e., MS Teams)

The following are preferred experience, skills, and knowledge:
- Experience implementing a HIPAA compliance program from start to finish.
- ISO 13485:2016 Medical Devices and 21 CFR 820 experience a plus.
- General health care related compliance programs.

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

- Viewing computer monitor, tablet and cell phone screen requiring close vision (95-100%)
Work Environment:
100% Remote: Work environment is at home.
Compensation:
