Police Assistant - Police Administration - Temporary
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of police leadership, this position performs a variety of critical support duties to assist in the daily operations of the police department.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position exercises no supervision.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assist with conducting background investigations for police personnel.
Assist with mental health transports.
Assist with maintenance of police grounds, facilities, and equipment.
Assist with Property and Evidence operations including data entry.
Assist with evidence processing, packaging evidence and transporting evidence to crime labs.
Assist with case dispositions including data entry.
Utilize computer programs to research persons and property related to crimes.
Operate a city vehicle to travel to various locations needed to conduct thorough background investigations for police personnel.
OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES
Perform other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge of:
General police policies, practices, and procedures.
Skill to:
Safely operate a motor vehicle.
Perform minor repairs to equipment and vehicles.
Perform investigative work.
Operate power tools and equipment.
Ability to:
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Interact with persons in crisis.
Prepare basic correspondence and mailing labels.
Enter and retrieve information from departmental computer systems.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

Experience and Training Guidelines:
For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying. Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
Experience:
Five (5) years of previous law enforcement experience is preferred.
Education/Training:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
License or Certificate:
A valid Texas driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
Special Requirements:
Completion of a four (4) hour Background Investigators training course prior to functioning in the role of Background Investigator.
Ability to travel to other work locations.
