Position Overview:
The Industrial Electrician will work as part of a team to install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in a manufacturing environment. This individual will have the ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and specifications in order to provide troubleshooting and repair services. The Industrial Electrician will also routinely perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and components in order to ensure the continued safe, efficient and effective operations of all equipment and fixtures utilized by the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that safety policies, housekeeping rules and guidelines, quality standards, and standard operating procedures are followed
- Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and equipment
- Design, build, bench test and install electrical panels
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, electrical code specifications and schematics in order to effectively troubleshoot, maintain and repair equipment
- Diagnose, locate the cause of, and repair malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment and components
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
- Direct and train other workers and apprentices to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
- Work on other electrical projects as required
- Ensure all work performed adheres to all relevant organizational, provincial and federal safety regulations, codes and specifications
- Extensive knowledge of electromechanical troubleshooting and repair (industrial relay control, AC/DC motors, VFD’s, and PLC field wiring)
- Ability to install and maintain low voltage electrical distribution systems
- Complete all paperwork as required
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation
- Demonstrated aptitude in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals and specifications
- Industrial Electrician experience preferred with preference given to those with a background in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment
- Experience with routine maintenance operations
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Able to work well under pressure
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of safe operating procedures
- Self-starter, with developed analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs. frequently
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. occasionally
- Continuous standing
- Use of hands and feet to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, controls, press buttons, levers and pedals
- Bending, twisting and reaching
- Repetitive movement
- Frequent walking
- Wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves and any other protective equipment deemed necessary
- Work indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions
- Work in hot conditions or cold temperatures
- Exposure to sounds and noise levels that can be distracting or uncomfortable
- Exposure to minor cuts or burns
- Exposure to contaminants
- Exposure to hazardous equipment
- Work with others in a group or team
- Overtime will be required, and Call-ins will be required
- Travel may be required
