Cedarville University seeks to hire an Application Developer II or III (depending on qualifications), who will create, refine, and maintain software applications, integrations, and data-driven workflows that support key systems—including ERP, SIS, and data integration platforms—within a dynamic higher education environment. This individual will help solve complex problems, improve processes, and contribute to a culture that values continuous learning and occasional moments of levity. The role involves working individually within a small team, embracing best practices, and delivering sustainable technical solutions that align with institutional goals.
Key Responsibilities – Applications Developer II
Software Development & Maintenance:
- Develops, tests, and maintains custom software applications that support operational and strategic initiatives.
- Implements efficient database structures and maintains data integrity across enterprise systems.
Integration & Data Management:
- Develops and supports integrations between internal and external systems using APIs, web services, and ETL tools.
- Crafts complex queries and reports to facilitate data-driven decision-making.
Requirements Gathering & Documentation:
- Collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders to capture and refine technical requirements.
- Produces comprehensive documentation for applications, integrations, and related processes.
Agile & Continuous Improvement:
- Participates in agile methodologies (e.g., scrums, sprints) to ensure timely and incremental value delivery.
- Identifies opportunities to streamline processes and adopt best practices.
Support & Training:
- Provides application support, troubleshooting, and prompt issue resolution.
- Occasionally delivers end-user training sessions to enhance solution adoption and effectiveness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience in technology field pertaining to information technology, prefer degree concentration in: Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Application Developer II:
Required:
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or possesses equivalent professional experience.
- Has at least 2 years of experience in software or web development.
- Has proficiency in a combination of technologies such as SQL, HTML, CSS, scripting, Liquid Markup, JSON, and APIs/web services, with a demonstrated ability to apply advanced knowledge in at least one or more of these areas.
- Exhibits familiarity with relational databases, complex queries, and reporting tools.
- Possesses strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Understands all phases of the SDLC, including analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Maintains excellent organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).
- Has relational database experience, including complex report and query design.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and organization.
- Is able to investigate and solve technology-related problems rapidly.
Preferred:
- Has experience with Ellucian Colleague or similar higher education ERP systems.
- Is familiar with UniBasic or related technologies.
Additional Responsibilities for Application Developer III:
Project Leadership & Strategy:
- Leads end-to-end software projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Guides and mentors team members, sharing expertise and fostering professional growth.
Architectural Influence & Strategic Planning:
- Provides input on architectural decisions and contributes to long-term technology planning.
- Plays a key role in evaluating, extending, or replacing the ERP platform to meet evolving institutional needs.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Collaborates with leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and technological innovation.
- Communicates technical concepts to non-technical audiences, including executive stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement & Methodologies:
- Champions continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean Six Sigma) to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – Application Developer III:
- Meets all required qualifications listed for Application Developer II
- Possesses at least 5 years of progressive experience in software development.
- Has a proven track record of leading complex projects and guiding technical teams.
- Demonstrates expertise in architecting solutions that balance current needs with future scalability.
- Is able to clearly articulate concepts and logic to non-technical constituents, including upper management.
- Demonstrates track record of continuous improvement with preference given to candidates with Lean Six Sigma experience.
- Is able to guide constituents through analysis and design, gathering requirements and specifications.
