POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

The assistant softball coach will help foster a distinctive culture in competitive athletics that commissions student-athletes to impact the world for Christ. The primary purpose is to support the head coach’s involvement in coaching.  Examples of support would be in the areas of recruitment, camp/clinic organization, scouting, practice instruction, weight training, discipleship, etc.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

  • Team members and coaching staff will strive to reflect the athletic department core values: Love for God, Love for Others, Integrity in Conduct, Excellence in Effort. 
  • Coordinate team travel
  • Mentor and spiritually motivate players
  • Assist with day-to-day program operations
  • Coordinate recruiting
  • Establish communication with alumni
  • Manage the program’s social media
  • Softball camp/clinic administration and organization
  • Coordinate mission trips
  • Other duties assigned by the head coach
  • Maintain a commitment to NCAA, Conference, and University rule compliance.
  • Report any NCAA, Conference, and University rule violations to the compliance coordinator.
  • Understand that violations of NCAA, Conference, and University rules and regulations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA degree required, Masters preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience (collegiate coaching experience preferred)
  • High character qualities: enthusiasm, dependability, creativity, motivation, flexibility and integrity
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with coaches, student-athletes, parents and others
  • Knowledge of NCAA DI or DII preferred (as athlete or coach)
  • Self-motivated with initiative and work ethic
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Have access to/use of a personal vehicle

 

REQUIRED MENTAL/PHYSICAL ABILITIES: 

  • Must be able to drive school cars/vans
  • Must be able to attend to details and deadlines
  • Must be able to keep on task in the midst of surrounding activity and have several tasks ongoing simultaneously
  • Must be able to lift objects of 25 pounds
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to use email and Microsoft Word
  • Must have, or obtain, current American Red Cross Standard First Aid certification or AHA Heartsaver First Aid certification.
