Position Description:
Christ House Transformational Housing helps homeless men reestablish independence after they have exited an emergency shelter. Single adult men are provided with communal housing, evening meals, and intensive support up to 12 months. Christ House staff and volunteers offer life skills, spiritual formation, financial literacy, employment training, counseling, and customized case management to residents. Christ House also operates an Evening Meal that provides a warm meal to homeless and low-income residents of Alexandria 365 days/year supported through volunteer groups from local parishes and other community groups. The Weekend Resident Manager provides shelter coverage and oversees evening activities. The position also coordinates the volunteers who prepare and serve the evening meal.
Position Responsibilities:
Per Agency protocols provide afternoon and evening supervision of Christ House 60 %
- Manage resident activities and provide coverage
- Ensure residents complete chores per standard
- Document any notable resident interactions
- Inspect the facility as scheduled
- Provide crisis intervention
- In case of emergency, evacuate the shelter per the Resident Manual
Other Duties: 40 %
Per Agency protocols provide oversight for the evening meal
- Oversee evening meal activities and provide guidance as necessary
- Ensure kitchen and dining areas are set up for volunteers
- Provide support to volunteers who prepare and serve the evening meal
- Engage with clients providing greetings and encouragement
- Record evening meal attendance
- Provide crisis intervention
- Other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Willingness to uphold Catholic social teaching in the workplace, comfortable working in a Catholic environment.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree or 2 years of relevant work experience
- Experience with mentoring and coaching
- Experience applying trauma informed care protocols a plus.
Physical Demands:
The employee must have the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to use a computer keyboard; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Required to stoop, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
