GENERAL SUMMARY
The Business Continuity Officer is a member of the First Line of Defense responsible for coordinating enterprise resources, including appropriate Business Units and IT staff, to oversee the recovery work efforts of business functions, applications, and underlying infrastructure in support of a business disruption or declared disaster. The BCO is responsible for assisting Business Units in developing and maintaining individual department Business Continuity plans, including test exercises and training. The BCO will schedule and facilitate Business Continuity activities, including incident response and business impact analyses, to ensure disaster preparedness capabilities across the enterprise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Acts as a First Line of Defense primary liaison to the business units in the development of corporate recovery plans, strategies, and training.
- Partners with Information Technology to provide oversight for required recovery testing and ensure all disaster recovery testing is properly documented, including test scripts and test results.
- Monitors Information Technology recovery work efforts to ensure alignment between Business Continuity Plan and IT Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Works with key business departments and stakeholders to update and test the Pandemic Response Plan on a regular basis.
- Performs third-party risk assessments on Vendor requirements for BCP/DRP and Crisis management planning.
- Maintains the bank’s business impact analysis (BIA) through coordination with individual department planning staff.
- Maintains the corporate communications platform, including updating the Emergency Information Line during crisis/disaster.
- Reviews daily information and select Business Continuity planning alerts from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration websites, and local news coverage in states with bank locations.
- Responsible for providing timely and accurate responses to outages, disaster, and other potential threats to business continuity to the VP of Operational Resilience, the Crisis Management Team, and appropriate Senior Management.
- Prepares information for annual reports and analyses for presentation to Senior Management, the Chief Risk Officer, and the Board.
- Participates in meetings of the Crisis Management Team, updates Crisis Management Plan, and assists with tabletop exercises.
- Updates institutional Business Continuity Plan and regularly assesses the reliability of the Business Continuity Plan.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Commensurate experience considered.
Experience: 5 years’ experience required in Business Continuity Management. - Skills/Ability:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and effectively lead discussions.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and staff.
- High level of professionalism, commitment, and integrity.
- Commitment to growing and enhancing skills and knowledge.
- Occasional travel to and from other work locations may be required.
- Must have a high degree of business acumen, good project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with business unit leaders, auditors, regulators, and third-party vendor representatives.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and in an efficient manner with minimal supervision.
- Strong team player with ability to influence opinions without having direct authority.
- Specific application skills include strong proficiency in Word and PowerPoint.
OTHER DETAILS
$35.10 – $43.75 / hour
Pay determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
