GENERAL SUMMARY

The SBA Operations Manager has a critical role within the Business Banking Group and SBA Department, overseeing the management of a diverse portfolio of Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. This position is essential for ensuring ongoing compliance, risk management, timely loan servicing, closing, reporting, adherence to regulatory guidelines, and overall performance of SBA loan portfolios and secondary market sales.  This role directly supports the revenue generation and risk mitigation efforts of the business, ensuring that the bank continues to meet the needs of clients and maximize growth opportunities in the SBA lending sector.  This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of SBA loan programs and regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in portfolio management and be capable of maintaining a high level of compliance while maximizing portfolio performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of SBA 7(a), 504, and other SBA loan products.
  • Monitor and track the status of existing loans, ensuring compliance with all required terms.
  • Propose and recommend risk rating adjustments in a timely manner based on loan performance.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to coordinate and manage the loan closing process.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is complete and accurate for smooth closing.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for both bank and department reporting.
  • Prepare and review necessary reports, ensuring compliance with bank and SBA standards.
  • Stay updated on SBA SOPs, guidelines, notices, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to in-house credit policies and operational procedures.
  • Communicate with the SBA regarding loan status updates, registering new loans, and obtaining necessary approvals.
  • Perform loan servicing functions via the SBA system, ensuring timely and accurate updates.
  • Manage the sale of existing SBA loans to the secondary market.
  • Collaborate with the sales operations team to maximize returns on loan sales.
  • Monitor the performance of existing loans, identifying any potential risks or issues.
  • Propose timely risk rating changes and communicate concerns to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with credit, operations, and legal departments to ensure compliance and efficient processing of loans.
    Manages and provides guidance to team including writing annual performance evaluations and providing balanced feedback.  Hosts meetings to support their professional development.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial lending or SBA loan management, including SBA 7(a) and 504 programs.
  • Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience.
  • Proven track record of managing an SBA loan portfolio, including loan servicing, risk management, and secondary market transactions.
  • Experience in coordinating loan closings and working with various departments such as credit, legal, and operations.

Skills/Ability:

  • Proficiency in SBA systems (E-Tran, SBA One) for loan processing and servicing.
  • Strong knowledge of SBA SOPs, guidelines, compliance requirements, and reporting standards.
  • Ability to manage loan risk ratings and portfolio performance metrics.
  • Familiarity with bank credit policies, underwriting standards, and secondary market loan sales.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with different departments (credit, operations, legal) to ensure compliance and smooth loan processing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess loan performance and recommend risk rating adjustments.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth understanding of SBA loan regulations, including compliance with SOPs, guidelines, and reporting requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in managing loan files, documentation, and reporting.
  • Familiarity with the secondary market for SBA loans and experience in loan sales transactions.
  • Ability to assess market conditions to optimize portfolio performance.
  • High level of professionalism and integrity in managing sensitive financial data.
  • Proficiency with banking software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other loan management tools.

 

OTHER DETAILS

 

VP level $100K - $130K / year
FVP level $120K – $145K / year 
Pay determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
