The Manager of Exhibits Electronics Engineering is to provide leadership to the Exhibits Electronics Engineering team. This small, but talented team is responsible for providing high-performance systems and engineering support to exhibitions, scientific research, educations and other initiatives to support the Academy’s missions.

This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are currently expected to work from the Academy offices at least 4 days per week, which may fluctuate based on business needs. About the Experience Engineering Team:
Experience Engineering is a small high performance department consist of three engineering teams; Exhibits Engineering, Planetarium Engineering, and Events AV Engineering. We are the core technical backer for all things technology in the Academy’s public venues and to degrees back of house.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Exhibits Electronics Engineering team including; staff selection, staff training, staffing to support daily operation, employee development, performance management and related procedures.
- Responsible for keeping up-to-date with the Academy’s rules and policies and to apply them accordingly.
- Stay current with technology trends and ensure staff have the necessary skills to maximize innovation and minimize costs.
- Responsible to maintain our “zero downtime standard” for all of our exhibition support systems.
- Participate in exhibit designs, technology selections, and cost estimates.
- Provide engineering’s best practices and guidance for achieving highest system performance at the lowest cost.
- Asist in managing technical projects and/or vendors.
- Responsible to plan, review, cost analysis on hardware and software acquisitions to ensure compatibility and effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain routine maintenance schedules to ensure 100% readiness on all systems supporting exhibitions and theaters.
- Develop tools, applications and methods as needed for calibration and maintenance of A/V and electronic systems.
- Cross-train with other EE teams to support departments throughout the Academy with their AV and electronic needs.
- Install/de-install equipment, and generate and maintain documentation of equipment performance history and implement system(s) to improve equipment performance.
- Follow all Academy safety procedures and maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Adhere to the Academy Public Floor guidelines for attire, appearance, and behavior
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- B.S.E.E. degree or equivalent training
- 5+ years of experience in hands-on systems engineering/services, including designs, installations, and maintenance. With strong emphasis in Audio and Video Engineering.
- 1+ years of experience in technical staff management
- Experience in strategic planning and execution.
- Experience in engineering and supporting exhibit systems and software.
- Experience with implementation of audio, video and systems integration for public venues.
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
Physical Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work in dark, confined spaces and high areas, stand, sit, walk, and reach or manipulate with hands and arms, and talk or hear, climb a ladder or work from an elevated lift. Must be able to perform repetitive motions 50% of the time. Must be able to lift 50lbs. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Compensation and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $114,000. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills/knowledge set, and internal equity. We believe in fair and equitable compensation practices and are committed to providing competitive salaries within the industry and market standards. The Academy offers a total compensation package that emphasizes both base salary and comprehensive benefits based on the hours per week worked. Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
