Biologist
Total Solutions, Inc. (TSI) is seeking experienced personnel to support the U. S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Public Assistance (PA) Program’s disaster-related operations.
The PA Program provides supplementary Federal assistance to State and local governments, certain private nonprofit organizations, and Indian Tribes and Alaskan Native Villages under Presidential major disaster declarations to clear debris; implement emergency protective measures for the preservation of life and property; repair or replace infrastructure, such as streets, bridges, and water control facilities; repair or replace public buildings and related equipment; repair or restore public utilities; and repair or restore public recreational facilities and parks. These program activities are highly visible and require the services of skilled and professional personnel.
Responsibilities
Site assessments:
- Conducting field surveys to evaluate the environmental impacts of disasters on ecosystems, including assessing damage to plant and animal populations, water quality, and habitat disruption.
- Species identification:
- Identifying threatened or endangered species present in disaster areas and assessing potential impacts on their populations.
Mitigation planning:
- Developing strategies to minimize environmental damage during disaster response and recovery operations, including recommending best practices for debris removal, site restoration, and habitat restoration.
Compliance monitoring:
- Ensuring all response activities adhere to relevant environmental regulations and permitting requirements
Technical support:
- Providing expert advice to other FEMA personnel, including emergency managers and engineers, on environmental issues related to disaster response
Data analysis:
- Interpreting environmental data collected during site assessments and preparing reports documenting findings
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field with 5 years of experience in a related field and professional registration or Bachelor's Degree with 10 years of experience in a related field
Preferred:
- Recommend- Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB)
