Health Educator Lead
The Lead Health Educator manages, coordinates, plans, organizes, and implements the Armed Forces Wellness Center (AFWC) program in accordance with published guidelines and standards for the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC). Works as the team leader in a dynamic group that delivers primary prevention services that improve health and build readiness by targeting the behaviorally modifiable factors most likely to result in chronic disease, injury and/or performance issues. The Lead Health Educator will participate in providing six core programs (health assessment review, physical fitness, healthy nutrition, stress management, general wellness education, and tobacco education) as part of the standardized AFWC program.
Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance on the AWC core program at the local installation, interpret guidelines, provide expertise and input for local policy recommendations and coordinate with professionals from higher headquarters, tactical units, medical treatment facilities and resource personnel in the military and civilian community.
- Document compliance in Strategic Management System SMS within 14 days following a quarter for performance measurements related to facilities, equipment, staffing and AWC core programs.
- Work with key stakeholders to ensure health and wellness services are synchronized with installation programs.
- Conduct comprehensive physical fitness testing to include cardiorespiratory, body composition analysis, muscular fitness, and flexibility assessments.
- Provide in-person and/or virtual health coaching using accepted behavior change strategies.
- Train new staff on various behavior change theories frequently used in health promotion.
- Ensure all subordinate staff achieve and retain core competencies for each of the AWC programs and technology used in the operation. Documents individual and staff core competencies.
- Develop course of action to improve the Armed Forces Wellness Center and to correct deficiencies as needed.
- Coordinate logistics of equipment and supplies, resource management, DPW, infection control, marketing and other administrative actions with high level professionals and resource personnel in the military and civilian community.
- Develop, coordinate, and conducts classes, working groups, and information meetings to meet program objectives. Create instructional methods, materials, and techniques.
- Leads the marketing efforts to promote the AWC program through outcome data, program metrics and other metrics to all internal and external stakeholders to include beneficiaries.
- Participates as a member in MTF and Installation professional meetings
- Identifies developmental and training needs of AWC personnel to meet requirements, provides or arranges for needed development or AWC operations training.
Qualifications:
- 4-year degree in an Allied Health field (exercise science/exercise physiology preferred) from an accredited college or university. Allied Health degrees include, but are not limited to, health promotion, health education, exercise science, nutrition science, etc.
- Maintains one or more nationally recognized NCCA credentials (ACSM, NASM, NSCA, CHES/MCHES, etc.)
- Current AHA BLS certification required
- Excellent public speaking skills
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
- U.S. citizenship required
