We are seeking a full-time Desk Analyst to work in our New York, NY office. This position offers competitive benefits along with an annual base earnings ranging from $125,000 to $175,000, with a portion of the earnings structured as a draw against commissions. Monthly draw amounts will be deducted from any commissions earned. Note: the figures provided reflect our reasonable and good faith estimate of expected earnings at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary and could exceed the posted range. The range may also be adjusted in the future.
The ideal candidate will be a financial professional who identifies and analyzes upcoming corporate events like mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, or significant news releases, providing insights and investment recommendations to institutional clients based on how these events are likely to impact a company's stock price, often working in a fast-paced trading environment and collaborating closely with sales and the trading desk to capitalize on potential market opportunities arising from these events.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Tracking and monitoring announced corporate mergers, companies for sale, and understanding spin-offs.
- Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of fundamental analysis and responsible for documenting all situations.
- Collaborating with B. Riley publishing research analysts to provide deal insights for company and industry/sector details.
- Proactively pitching ideas and recommendations to clients.
- Attending and orchestrating remote and in-person meetings with clients, Including face to face, office presentations, dinners, etc.
- Providing insights on morning Equity Research calls when needed.
- Practicing and executing the regulatory/antitrust/legal processes allowing for adequate preparation to predict timing for the closing of deals.
- Creatively coordinating proprietary events for clients surrounding specific mergers and often facilitating with outside legal counsel and/or industry experts.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or Economics.
- Three to five years of experience in the specific role, or that of an actual buy-side event driven analyst that’s willing to work on the sell-side.
- Preferably have existing client relationships in various industry sectors.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work without supervision.
- Self-starter with willingness to learn and adapt to new and challenging tasks.
