Job Summary:

 

The Lead RCA provides varying levels of specialized services and care required by our residents.  The primary goal of a Lead RCA is to provide our residents and families with a World Class experience through successful living and life enhancement activities, while assisting and maintaining a positive physical, nutritional and social environment.

 

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Supports the resident’s abilities by understanding that all aspects of care can be viewed as an opportunity for engagement.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfer, mobility, and continence care while focusing on the resident and not on the task.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the cognitive, physical, behavioral and psychosocial approach to dementia and the elderly population by being sensitive to all aspects of resident care.
  • Initiates programming and activities with residents, leading one-on-one, small group and large group activities. Encourages resident participation.
  • Participates with program staff and residents in daily programs and recreational activities as directed, including excursions
  • Provides an engaged dining experience that meets the expectations of our residents and families. Champions the Harbor Resident Choice Dining Program, and snack and hydration programs, per Standards and Practice.
  • Assists residents with medication per state regulations
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the resident’s history, interests, physical and cognitive abilities to help provide a successful living experience. Successfully implements the service plan
  • Knows and complies with all resident rights
  • Observes and reports any changes in resident’s condition (behavior or health), takes action to ensure safety of the resident and reports to supervisor
  • Recognizes and assists in the prevention of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation (financial and other)
  • Checks SAMM / MAR for completion from prior shift
  • Checks all residents daily for cleanliness, appropriate clothing, and any continence issues
  • Uses proper sanitary procedures to wipe tables, and sweep and mop dining room and life enrichment kitchen after meals
  • Checks on resident rooms, laundry rooms, and common areas daily for general cleanliness and neatness; ensures high risk rooms are double checked
  • Ensures that ADLs for residents have been satisfactorily completed
  • Ensures that charting is completed as scheduled and checks for other noted events (i.e. admissions
  • Responds to resident / family requests in a timely manner
  • Assures resident information is communicated through the report process and calendar (i.e. appointments, outings, etc.)
  • Communicates and documents residents’ material needs (i.e. briefs, clothing, toothpaste, pads, etc.) to Supervisor
  • Accurately completes incident reports prior to the end of the working day and submits to the RCD.
  • Develops RCA staffing schedule in conjunction with the Resident Care Director. Reports shift updates in communication log
  • Initiates daily RCA assignments. Assigns break times and relieves staff who go on breaks
  • Completes weekly and monthly documentation as applicable, including weights and blood pressure measures
  • Assists the Community Sales Team, led by the Executive Director, with sales and marketing programs and initiatives

Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification:

  • Must have current certification as a nursing assistant or have successfully completed the certified home health aide or homemaker/personal care homemaker training program.
  • Possesses current First Aid, and Heimlich certification, if required by state regulations
  • High School education preferred

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of state regulations as they pertain to the job
  • Has sound working knowledge of policies in the Resident Handbook.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Familiar with infection control and prevention procedures
  • Demonstrates proficiency at reading and understanding a Resident Care Service Plan
  • Understands advanced directives and end-of-life care
  • Possesses knowledge about the assisted living philosophy
  • Understands the nursing function in assisted living
  • Understands quality of care and life objectives
  • Demonstrates understanding of the use of Resident Care Standards and Practices with the Resident Care Director
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the following Benchmark Standards and Practices:
  • OSHA guidelines, e.g., chemicals, personal care products, and items locked
  • Use of walkie talkies, beeper, and keys
  • Complies with dress code requirements
  • Proper punching of timecards / etime
  • Alarm systems, Fire safety and elopement procedures
  • Consistent attendance and participation in staff meetings and mandatory in-service
