SUMMARY:
The Assistant Camper support position works with the Head of Camper Support to identify and assist campers who require additional support to succeed throughout their camp day. This position will be responsible for effective communication with campers, counselors, and parents, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience.
Length of Position:
- June 23- August 15, 2025- approx. hours 8:15 am -4:45 pm
Orientation Schedule:
- June 12: 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm (New Staff Only)
- June 16: 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm
- June 17: 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
- June 18: 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm
- June 20: 8:15 pm - 4:45 pm
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Review the camper care spreadsheet created by the Head of Camper Support to onboard the information required to support a caseload of campers.
- Assist the Head of Camper Support during Orientation week to disseminate camper profiles to Directors and Unit Heads and facilitate the implementation of individualized support plans.
- Serve as a resource for staff, offering guidance and troubleshooting solutions for interpersonal struggles (camper-to-camper and staff-to-camper).
- Provide intervention in situations where conflicts or behavioral issues arise that cannot be resolved by bunk counselors or division heads.
- Facilitate peer mediation to resolve conflicts.
- Provide informal, non-clinical counseling to both campers and staff, individually and in groups, as necessary.
- Provide positive behavioral support to enhance the camper experience.
- Maintain communication with parents regarding camper needs and progress as needed.
- Prepare resources and provide guidance to parents needing additional support for their children
- Create and/or distribute behavior charts for campers and follow-up with counselors to ensure they are being used appropriately and consistently.
- Meet daily with the Head of Camper Support to discuss ongoing camper needs and actions taken.
- Document interactions and progress in Camp Minder on a daily basis.
- Ensure compliance with and enforcement of all camp policies and procedures.
- Play a role in daily transportation at camp.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:
- Experience at summer camp or similar environment preferred.
- Understanding the developmental needs of youth and the ability to foster positive relationships with both youth and adults.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, collaborate as a team member, and lead when necessary.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Willingness to ask for assistance when needed or desired.
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to relate to individuals in a positive and supportive manner
WHO YOU ARE:
- Must be 22 years of age or older
- Hold a graduate-level or higher degree in a mental health-related field (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, psychology, youth psychiatry, family therapy). A graduate level student in such a program may also be considered.
- Previous experience working with children or in a camp or recreations setting is preferred.
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. It often involves standing for extended periods and working in outdoor settings.
The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
