SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Operations, the Park Heights Aquatics Supervisor is primarily responsible for the administration and management of the aquatics program at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC. This includes management of all full and part time aquatics staff at the facility, administration of aquatic programming (including, but not limited to learn-to-swim for children and adults, water aerobics, health and safety training courses, and advanced certifications for aquatics professionals), and maintaining the highest standards of safety and customer service with regards to all programming, facilities, and equipment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Supervise part-time and full-time aquatics staff including the preparation of payroll in a timely fashion
- Complete scheduling for staff, programming, and pool schedule for membership
- In accordance with written policies, work with Human Resources to recruit, hire and train aquatics staff
- Develop, promote, and administer the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program
- Assist in development of new aquatics programs
- Provide back-up management coverage at other JCC Aquatics facilities as needed, in the event of illness, emergency, or necessary modification to normal programming
- Under the supervision of the Sr. Director, Operations develop and administer a maintenance and service plan for equipment, including the purchase of supplies and equipment
- Work with the Sr. Director, Operations to review and revise the Emergency Action Plan for the Park Heights facility and ensure staff are trained and drilled in its execution
- In accordance with the laws of Maryland and Baltimore City, ensure that routine pool maintenance and sanitation / disinfection is conducted properly
- Participate in departmental and agency training, staff meetings, supervisory conferences, committees, and special events as assigned
- Ensures proper handling of all paperwork and forms, including:

- Submission of course records to certifying agencies in a timely manner and maintain and electronic backup of all such documentation
- Submission of all registration documentation to the appropriate office for payment processing and data entry.
- Submission of class/course information for inclusion in marketing materials and for purposes of establishing registration
- Ensuring that daily logs of chemical testing, sanitation, and information about systems maintenance for the Park Heights facility are maintained in accordance with Maryland State law.

WHO YOU ARE:
- Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid is required
- Current certification and authorization as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor is preferred
- Current licensure from Baltimore City and County as a Certified Pool Operator is preferred (this will be required within 30-90 days of starting work).
- Strong customer service skills including an outgoing personality and friendly disposition
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Possess a high degree of self-confidence and maturity
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented culture
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently and multitask under deadline
- Strong computer and general organizational skills and ability to utilize various software programs for CRM system, scheduling, and payroll.

- Demonstrated ability to train staff and maintain in-service training programs;
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with groups served by JCC Aquatics programs, including children, the elderly, and people with chronic physical/mental/emotional disabilities.
- Strong interpersonal leadership, motivation, and teaching skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and market training and educational programs
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend time sitting and using a computer, laptop, or phone. The employee may also be required to frequently be on their feet for periods of time.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
The work environment may be fast paced and requires high energy and interaction with others. The workspace may be noisy, at times.
Candidates should be able to swim 500 meters (550 yards) continuously in under 15 minutes, retrieve an object from water with a depth of 10 feet and return with it for a distance of 25 yards in under one minute and 30 seconds; perform any of the basic rescues required for American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, demonstrate proper CPR skills, and respond appropriately to emergency scenarios.
Lifeguards must be able to see and correctly identify objects (with vision correction or appropriate sunglasses) up to 125 feet. Lifeguards must also be able to see in bright light. (Lifeguards must provide their own equipment, i.e., sunglasses, for dealing with glare and bright light conditions.) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Lifeguards must be able to remain at their post for extended periods of up to three hours without a break. Lifeguards are expected to be attired appropriately for entering the water and performing rescue procedures. Lifeguards are expected to enter the water as needed to perform maintenance and other functions and should be able to return to their initial post for an extended period, even in wet clothing.
Lifeguards must be able to remove an unconscious adult from the water (with assistance and using appropriate methods.)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
The work environment for members of the Aquatics Staff is usually hot and humid. Air quality within indoor pools may be reduced to increased levels of chloramines and ammonia compounds produced from the disinfection of pool water.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary (or Salary Range): $45,000 - $50,000
