SUMMARY:
The Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC Children’s Theatre Production Company (CTPC) is seeking a Music Director for the upcoming 2024/2025 fiscal year. The ideal candidate is an arts education professional who will work closely with the Arts & Culture staff to help build upon and expand all JCC CTPC programming that involves music. The ideal musical director is prepared and eager to be a role model within their field, for the Center of Arts & Culture, and the JCC as a whole.

Will be supervised by and work closely with the director of youth arts education. Experience and a love for teaching children of all ages, as well as extensive experience in their art form, is imperative. Submissions with musical directing, performance, and/or teaching reels is highly preferred.
COMMITMENT:
September 2024-January 2024, Sunday afternoons and select Monday evenings. Must attend necessary production meetings as well as tech week rehearsals for the production. Looking to staff the musical director for the duration of CTPC JR & CTPC Teen’s main stage musical production of Newsies Jr. (grades 3rd - 10th ).This includes assisting with auditions and callbacks. Estimated 5 hours a week. Upon completion of this session and evaluation from the supervisor, will then discuss future employment and availability.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Attend and help supply all musical accompaniment and instruction for all classes, rehearsals, and performances.
- Responsible for teaching and upholding the integrity of all vocal and instrumental components within the CTPC programming.
- Assist young performers, as individuals or as a group, with songs and learning vocal parts.
- Must be available to teach Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings.
- Must attend all production meetings, special events, and trainings required.
- Responsible for understanding all safety procedures of the J and could lead the participants in the event of an emergency.
- Adhere to the dress code requirements as well as always meet all JCC standards for professionalism in conduct and appearance; Instructor agrees to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the class. Must wear JCC issued nametag or name badge.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
WHO YOU ARE:
- A minimum of 2 years prior experience teaching and/or musical directing (experience with school aged students preferred).
- Experience directing (preferably several) musical theatre productions is preferred.
- Extensive experience working with differing levels of musicianship, age groups, and learning abilities.
- Able to plan, write, and execute a well thought out, age-appropriate curriculum for preparatory musical theatre classes.
- Excels in classroom management; commands a room but remains patient and ever inclusive to all students as per the JCC and CTPC values.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, a willingness to collaborate with peers and colleagues, enjoys working on a team, and can be flexible.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the artistic team and if necessary, to CTPC families.
- Experience with transposing music, if deemed necessary, to accommodate the ranges and talents of students is preferred.
- Experience with teaching individual voice lessons is a plus.
