ASRC Federal Communications is seeking an Electrician Journeyman for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer.  This non-rotational permanent position is located at King Salmon Divert Airfield, Alaska. 

The selected employee will be provided a government one-bedroom dormitory apartment on site. If bringing family members renting/buying a house offsite, it will be at the employee's own costs.  There is no meal service at King Salmon, employees are responsible for providing their own meals.  You are responsible for your flight from your home base to Anchorage; The company provides an additional stipend three times annually for flights between Anchorage and King Salmon.  King Salmon Airport (KS): KS is situated within the Bristol Bay Borough of Alaska, approximately 239 miles southwest of Anchorage and is part of the Alaska Time Zone. The community of King Salmon (population 400) is located along the north bank of the Naknek River and is connected to the community of Naknek (population 600) via a 15 mile highway. Bristol Bay and King Salmon are accessible and can be resupplied only by air and sea.  

Summary/General Description of Job: Provide installation, alteration, additions, and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment within the electrical construction industries. Will be working with power generation and large-area power distribution.

 

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
• Performs a variety of electrical trade functions, such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electrical energy.
• Installs or repairs any of a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, pedestals, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, and lighting systems.
• Locates and diagnoses trouble in electrical systems equipment.
• Work involves planning and layout of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions.
• Performs standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment.
• Takes cathodic protection readings, and up channels for proper analysis.
• Inspects work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.
• Responds to callouts after normal working hours, as needed.
• Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations, as directed. 
• Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing pertaining to trades or skills.
• Ensures proper housekeeping of jobsite, mechanical rooms, and shops.
• Performs related work as assigned and augmented to the Power Plant/Electrical facility. Accountable For:
• Common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.
• Procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of electrical circuits, both overhead and underground.
• Solid-state and conventional control circuitry.
• The use of hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.
• Understanding and following directions.
• Reading and working from blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Working on or from elevated platforms.
• Climbing an extension ladder.

 

Work Conditions:

The employee is regularly required to understand verbal and written instructions, provide information, and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and work on scaffolding and ladders. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

Mandatory

  • High school diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid Electrical Journeyman’s certification with two (2) years’ experience as a Journeyman electrician.
  • Current Alaska Certificate of Fitness Card at a Journeyman Electrician Level, or the ability to obtain an Alaska Certificate of Fitness prior to hire date.
  • Working knowledge of solid-state and conventional control circuitry.
  • Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain.
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Obtain an interim security clearance and obtain a NACI clearance.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Pass a Fire Brigade physical and remain an active member of the Fire Brigade.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a remote location.
  • Confined space training.
