ASRC Federal Advanced Research is currently seeking a Software Engineer to support the US ARMY Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) in Warren, Michigan. Considering the state of the world today, military technical innovation is critical to defending our territories and those of our allies.  The US Army is currently exploring the insertion of leading-edge technology into their legacy fleet of vehicles to improve the situational awareness, agility, autonomy, and lethality of US Military ground-based combat operations.  This effort presents a unique opportunity for civilian engineers to participate in the research and development efforts that will shape future battlefield combat platforms. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and analyzes software programs or applications for computer-based systems.
  • Performs systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Designs and develops compilers, assemblers, utility programs, embedded applications and operating systems. Provides inputs for documentation of new or existing programs.
  • Performs subsystem definition, preliminary and detailed design, design implementation, subsystem and system integration, and tests for a subsystem.
  • Participates in software requirements review, preliminary and critical design reviews, integration readiness review, and software acceptance reviews. 
  • Possesses the ability to architect, design, develop, implement, debug, and test low-level microcontroller software based on customer requirements.  Research problems discovered by quality assurance or product support and develops solutions to the problems.
  • Supports proposal efforts with frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts. Represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical problems associated with specific projects. 
  • Perform software systems architecture development, software reuse, low-level software production, high-level application systems development, software project management, risk management, software process models (e.g., use of Agile development), software engineering technologies and tools, high proficiency in the C programming language, proficiency in at least one object-oriented language such as C++ or C#, familiarity in real-time operating systems, and demonstrates competency in at least one firmware programming suite (e.g., Code Composer Studio, MPLAB, etc.).
  • Develops correctio by revising instructions or altering the sequence of operations. Modifies existing programs or program code as required by changing system requirements or equipment configurations.
  • Confers with systems analysts to clarify program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, and requirements for internal checks and controls.

Education/Experience

This labor category or position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain T1/Confidential security clearance
