ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a Network Engineer to join our Airport Surveillance Radar (ASR-9) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. 

 

The ASR-9 is a radar system used by the FAA to monitor air traffic and weather conditions in the United States. The ASR-9 is a primary surveillance radar that provides air traffic controllers with information on aircraft position and weather.

 

We are looking for an experienced individual to work independently and in a team environment. This individual:

  • Assists in assessing complex problems and investigates, develops, appraises, selects, and presents solutions. Duties include an interdisciplinary approach using engineering principles.
  • Assists in specifications development, implementation, testing and documenting engineering systems and equipment. Initiates concept development and trade-off studies.
  • Works with customer’s interdisciplinary teams to assist and resolve any design challenges. Directs the design of electronic or mechanical devices down to the subsystem level.
  • Devises appropriate tests to use in evaluating, debugging, and checking of equipment and systems for accurate and dependable conformance to specifications.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering with seven (7) years of related work experience in the specific engineering principle OR
    • Master’s degree in engineering with five (5) years related work experience in the specific engineering principle.
  • Permanent Residency (with 3 years residing in the US) or US Citizenship is required for the FAA Moderate Trust/background investigation.  
  • Must have experience with Linux Platform Development and Embedded Linux designs.
  • Proficient with Linux, C/C++, Shell Scripting, and understanding of networking communication protocols (TCP/IP, UDP/IP) and hardware.
  • Well versed in some of the following technologies: GCC Compiler, Cross Compiler Environment, QT, BSD Sockets, Wireshark, MetaAssist, TeraTerm, Network Routing, Git, Linux Network Device Drivers, Python, Open Embedded, Netlink.
  • Utilizes Linux in engineering investigations, designs and develops code for physical hardware devices utilizing software applications to solve problems and implement systems.
  • Extensive database experience (i.e., hardware, software, network experience) with thorough knowledge of software and hardware development lifecycles.
  • Knowledge of test equipment including oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, signal generator, logic analyzer.
  • Proficiency in analysis of existing Requirements, Testing and Compliance Procedures/Documents.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, including circuit theory, power systems, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Experience with hardware design, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout, and schematic capture.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to work environments.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

  • Evaluates test plans/procedures for operational testing during development.
  • Provides knowledge in the development and implementation of hardware/software integration designs by performing requirements analysis, conceptual design, system design review, critical design review, installation, integration, testing, and maintenance.
  • Experience with radar system simulation tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, 3D Printer, Altium).
  • Proficiency in building Network cables, Cat5/Cat6, routing and configuring routing switches with DeMarc’s.
  • Familiarity with radar system components, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, and signal processors.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. 

Essential Job Duties                                                 

  • Conducting system upgrades, modifications, and calibration activities to improve performance and meet operational requirements.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to address technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including maintenance procedures and system configurations.
  • Conducting feasibility studies and cost analyses for electrical systems.
  • Participating in field tests, data analysis, and performance evaluations of radar systems.
  • Participating in prototype testing, validation, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and determine operational issues and recommend solutions.
  • Direct and coordinate with outside vendors to manufacture prototypes and production units including development of Manufacturing Specifications.
  • Providing engineering support to field personnel to include remote (e.g. email, phone or on-site.)
