Computer/Electrical Engineer, Level 1
The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Surface Surveillance Systems Support Team provides engineering support for Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE-3 and ASDE-X), Runway Status Lights (RWSL) and Airport Surface Surveillance Capability (ASSC) systems. Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering support services for resolving hardware/software issues at field sites
- Provide software development services such as code reviews, analysis and modifications
- Develop software test plans, procedures and reports
- Support technology refresh of legacy system hardware and software
- Create written reports based on data analysis outlining the situation and possible solutions
- Assist with unit, regression and integration testing
- Occasional travel to airports across the nation to provide engineering support
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required. All applicants must have resided in the United States for the past 3 years.
On-site presence will be as required by the FAA.

- Ability to adapt to/learn how to use new systems and custom software
- Ability to pass an FAA background investigation (US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required)
- Ability to travel up to 25% if required
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required. The degree must be from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
- Experience with Radio Frequencies (RF) or radar is desirable
- Experience using object-oriented languages such as JAVA, C++ or C# is desirable
- Experience with Linux Operating Systems (e.g. Red Hat, Debian)
- Experience with high-level scripting languages (e.g. BASH, Python, Perl, Ruby) is desirable
- Experience with System Administration or Cyber Security is desirable
- Experience using software version control software such as GIT and issue tracking software such as JIRA
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
