Peak Adventures’ purpose is to kindle personal growth, leadership, and connections through experiences in the outdoors.
 

ASI’s Peak Adventures is an outdoor adventure program dedicated to getting Sac State Students outside. Peak Adventures provides guided outdoor trips, low cost gear rentals, full service bike repair at The Bike Shop, summer youth camps and team building at The Challenge Center.

SUMMARY:The Challenge Center Facilitator is responsible for ensuring the safe facilitation of team games and providing belay support for participants during climbing activities at the Peak Adventures Challenge Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

CHALLENGE CENTER FACILITATOR I (APPRENTICE)

Responsibilities:

  • Successfully pass the basic belay test within 120 days of hire.
  • Ensure participant safety and strictly adhere to risk management protocols.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment for various activities, including team building games, climbing elements, and recreational activities.
  • Provide belay support for participants on climbing elements.
  • Effectively manage group dynamics among participants, fostering positive behavior, addressing negative behavior, and applying appropriate consequences.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions related to job duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies during programs and perform post-program cleanup.
  • Satisfactorily complete the Apprentice Task List.
  • Satisfactorily complete the written Facilitation and Technical skills test for Apprentices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Attend Maintenance and Inspection shifts as scheduled.

 

CHALLENGE CENTER FACILITATOR II

Responsibilities:  In addition to the responsibilities listed above:

  • Act proactively in assisting Team Leads during programming and mentor new staff members.
  • Lead advanced initiatives.
  • Provide belay support on advanced climbing elements such as the Dive, Zump, Up and Over Wall, and the Swing.
  • Satisfactorily complete the Facilitator Task List.
  • Satisfactorily pass the written Facilitation and Technical skills test for Facilitators.

 

CHALLENGE CENTER FACILITATOR III (TEAM LEAD)

Responsibilities: In addition to the responsibilities listed above:

  • Act as the day-of contact for clients and staff.
  • Actively mentor staff members.
  • Be prepared to lead and participate in all facets of rescues on all high elements.
  • Ensure program readiness and execution.
  • Lead with enthusiasm.
  • Complete Team Lead-specific training as directed by the Challenge Center Manager.
  • Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification on file.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Availability to work shifts outside of a standard work week, including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of positive energy, create a safe learning environment, and communicate professionally with participants and colleagues, with a willingness to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and ages.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrollment in a minimum of 6 units at Sacramento State University; maintenance of a minimum 2.0 GPA overall (for Student Assistant incumbents).
  • Experience working with diverse demographics of youth and adults.
  • Proficiency in belaying and rock climbing.
  • Experience in leading games and facilitating activities.
  • Prior leadership experience.
  • ACCT Facilitator Level I or similar certifications.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, kneel, squat, and reach overhead.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Comfort with wearing a harness for an extended duration.
  • Capability to belay participants (with assistance when necessary) weighing up to 300 lbs.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Outdoors exposed to rain, heat and cold temperature for 24 hours a day
