Sand Blast Operator - 2nd Shift

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Operates a sandblast machine or portable air compressor to remove markings from metal and other surfaces for repair or painting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Operates sandblast machinery
- Removes scale, grease, tar, rust, corrosion, and foreign objects from the surfaces of metal to prepare them for repair or painting
- Set up and masking (Class I Welds) and spray paint fabricated tools
- Maintains, cleans, and performs small repairs to hoses and nozzles of sandblast machines and portable air compressors
- Enforces safety precautions applicable to outdoor sandblasting including PPE, clean up glass and sand media, and general organization
- Assists in erecting scaffolding and staging needed in sandblasting operations.
- Keeps and inventory and proactively places orders for sand, cement, and other materials as needed
- Participates and takes responsibility for 6S
- Operates a forklift in accordance with safety standards.
- Any additional duties as reasonably assigned by management
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:
- 6+ months of experience as a sandblast machine operator OR 1+ year experience as a member of a crew performing sandblast work
- This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22.C.F.R. § is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Spray painting experience
- A working knowledge of manual and automatic sand and grit blasting machines, materials, processes, and practices
- A working knowledge of safety devices necessary for outdoor sandblasting
- A working knowledge of the hazards to health encountered and the protective devices used in sandblasting streets and other surfaces
- A working knowledge of the hazards of operation and routine maintenance of portable and towable air compressors up to 600 cfm
- The ability to work on scaffolding, staging, and ladders

- While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles
- The employee may be exposed to vibration
- The employee is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
- May be required to travel to other site locations during the work day
- May be required to work weekends to meet department and business demands
- Work with safe manufacturing processes and understand that eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area.
- Knows that safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area

- Must be able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Must be able to see, talk, hear, touch, feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to frequently walk and stand for short periods of time
- Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs, occasionally lift and move objects up to 50lbs.
- Must be able to work the hours 5 pm - 1:30 am.
