Superior Court - Criminal Division Services - Part Time Security Officer

This position is part time, non-exempt, unclassified and covered under the Superior Court Employee Handbook. This is an employee-at-will position.
8:00 am – 4:30 pm; Shifts vary; occasional weekend shift required; 20-25 hours/week
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Civilian Security Officer is responsible for monitoring the Criminal Division Services building and ensuring safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitors clients and members of the general public entering and exiting the facility and surrounding areas.
- Checks clients, performs pat downs and confiscates any weapons or dangerous and/or inappropriate items.
- Prepares detailed incident reports.
- Monitors and secures all hallways, private offices and public areas of the facility frequently throughout the day, ensuring the safety of everyone in the facility.
- Escorts other staff members to deposit daily collections.
- Ensures safety and security of the facility during the day and when various classes are in session. Ensures facility is locked and secured each evening.
- Conducts supervised and observed chemical testing on clients and administers breathalyzer tests.
- Accompanies field officers during field supervision of clients.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or GED and more than one year security or law enforcement experience
- Must possess and provide a Court approved handgun
- Knowledge of effective search methods
- Ability to effectively observe and direct clients to ensure proper compliance with drug screen collection requirements
- Knowledge and ability to apply evidence collection and preservation techniques
- Knowledge of all Local, State and Federal laws applicable to the practices and general operations of Criminal Division Services
- Ability to deal with potentially violent individuals in precarious situations with swiftness, rationality and authoritative action
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all department records and information
- Ability to use 2-way radio, handgun, cell phone, flashlight, protective vest and other job related equipment
- Must be able to complete and maintain the requisite and required Court approved Firearms training and initial qualifications
- Must pass subsequent Court approved Firearms qualifications annually
- Must possess a valid Indiana Firearms Permit
- Valid Driver’s license to perform home visits and client transports
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Civilian Security Officer works both in and out of a secured building with frequent walking and some standing and sitting. Some lifting of up to forty pounds, reaching over head, kneeling, proofreading, and exposure to temperature extremes, noise, noxious odors, and bodily fluids are required. Frequent mental/visual effort, typing, monitoring of equipment and very frequent attention to detail, detailed inspection and exposure to dangerous equipment exists. The Civilian Security Officer is in frequent contact with aggressive, hostile, intoxicated and potentially violent and abusive program clients and their families.
