Public Services Librarian

Position Summary:

Gingrich Library is seeking a part-time librarian who will be responsible for supporting and directing the library’s outward-facing services. This part-time position manages core public services such as interlibrary loan, frontline services, and managing library student assistants. The incumbent participates in the library’s research and instruction program and has oversight responsibility for all outreach to the campus and external communities, including programming and social media, to achieve the goals of the library in campus engagement.

 

Essential Job Functions [negotiable]:

  • Hires, trains, and supervises students for a variety of library services including frontline public service, social media posts, and collaborative programs.
  • Prepares incoming and outgoing material for interlibrary loan.
  • Participates in the statewide chat-monitoring service.
  • Serves as the library’s point person for reference support and training.
  • Leads library programming for campus engagement, including events, exhibits, and displays and coordinates the library’s social media efforts.
  • Works closely with campus partners to develop innovative services in support of student learning and academic success.

 

Other Responsibilities:

Databases and Systems:

    • Manages the collection and reporting of online database statistics.

Shared Functions:

  • In collaboration with librarians and faculty, assists in building and weeding the print collection in the assigned liaison areas.
  • Develops and maintains resource guides for liaison areas.
  • Participates in liaison functions (instruction, research, and curriculum support).
  • Participates in First-Year Seminar (FYS) instruction.
  • Serves as library liaison to academic and campus departments as assigned by the Director.
  • Coordinates and participates in library instruction program.
  • Coordinates content on the library’s website.
  • Provides cross coverage to assist other areas depending on workload.
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required.

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

 

1.  COMMUNICATION

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, in an individual and group setting

2.  SKILLS 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; competency with other Microsoft Office software a plus.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and collegially with committees, individual faculty, administrative colleagues, and students.
  • Integrity and good leadership, consensus-building and organizational skills, and ability to exercise good judgement and discretion.
  • Student-centered commitment to the goals of liberal arts education
  • Ability to work independently and to handle multiple tasks, with careful attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and provide accurate, prompt and efficient service. 

3.  EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with library programming or event planning.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience using social media desirable.
  • Experience with reference services a plus.
  • Experience working with electronic databases for searching and instruction, ability to prepare reports and accurately maintain records.

4.  EDUCATION 

  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science
