A Lead Process Engineer interacts with plant engineering and operations & maintenance departments to identify improvement opportunities, as well as the business and marketing teams for growth projects. This position develops engineering design deliverables for new products or processes that will sustain and grow the business. This position ensures that the process engineering standards and procedures are met during the development, design, and construction phases of a project and works to improve these processes in parallel.
A successful engineer in this position will be able to:

- Develop and design process design deliverables for capital projects meeting safety, cost, and schedule expectations.
- Identify design alternatives including non-capital solutions through clear understanding on problem statements.

- Gain consensus for project decisions and manage ambiguity, uncertainties and risk through effective communication.
- Strongly collaborate with other engineering disciplines and functional areas (e.g. finance, operations, supply chain, business development).

- Must be self-motivated and goal-oriented with proven success working independently and in a multi-functional team environment
- Applies root cause analysis to test designs and develop controls to anticipate problems or prevent reoccurrences.
- Actively innovate and implement solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) process design packages for the capital projects as part of the FEL (Front End Loading) and CPMP (Capital Project Management Process) processes
- Develop engineering design deliverables including, but not limited to:
- Heat and Material Balances
- Process simulations
- Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Process design narratives
- Control system narratives
- Process equipment sizing and specification development
- Scaling up laboratory and pilot scale technologies to commercialization scale
- Technical or Financial risk assessments
- Detailed peer reviews of process designs for content and quality
- Process Hazard Analysis support and Recommendation implementation
- Supporting capital project engineers through detailed design, vendor selection, equipment purchases, construction, and startup and commissioning.
- Become an subject matter expert on a process(es) or a unit operation.
- Act as technical lead for work teams with a goal to identify and implement productivity/efficiency improvements.
- Work within teams to identify and implement longer term process improvement efforts, with the overall goal being to achieve improved safety, higher yields, better production rates, and higher attainment.
- Identify and implement improvements on basic control schemes and advanced process control strategies.
- Develop process economics, feasibility studies, and project justification.
- Assist plant operations in key growth, cost savings, or stability projects.
- Ensure quality assurance of engineering calculations, process simulations, and engineering drawings
Basic Qualifications:
- BS in Engineering, Chemical preferred
- Excellent organizational, planning, and verbal & written communication skills
- 5 - 15+ years of experience in process engineering within the chemical, petroleum, and/or industrial manufacturing environments
Additional Qualifications:
- Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification
- Experience in designing and executing capital projects
- Experience in major and minor process equipment design, selection, commissioning, and startup
- Proficient in Aspen Plus, PipeFlo, Minitab, MS Office Suite, etc.
- Proficient with process data historian software (Uniformance, OSI PI, or other)
- Experience in Process Safety Management covered processes
- Familiarity with DCS programs such as Experion, Foxboro, or DeltaV
- Prior experience in water treatment and/or environmental compliance systems
