Position Title:Capital Engineering Director
Primary Location:Richmond, VA
Reports to:Operational Excellence Leader
Position Summary
The Capital Engineering Director has a critical role in the overall success of the entire enterprise. Capital improvements accounts for some of the most significant spend across the entire organization and successful implementations can impact our growth and success in the immediate year and ongoing.
Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities
Lead the Capital Engineering organization and develop the capital strategy for the organization driving significant manufacturing improvements for the success of the organization
Plans & Aligns
- Lead the function in managing the scoping, evaluation, and execution of engineering, growth and maintenance related projects with a value of 100+ million of capital investments across all facilities
- Oversee and improve the management, coordination, and overall plans of process, engineering/design, scheduling, estimating, budgeting, procurement, and construction at all stages in development of the project scope, and manage the overall effort leading to an approved Appropriation Request (AR)
- Drive communication links with site/function leadership and Capital Engineering Leaders to realize resource and execution synergies in the business
- Lead Capital Planning Reviews, Annual Operating Plan, and the Six Sigma Initiatives, in order to develop the site capital plan/budget; responsible for leading and ensuring the most valued productivity programs receive the proper funding
- Forecast and manage capital expenditures across the organization and communicating to the Operations Leadership and Senior Leadership Team on a regular basis
Leadership, Team & Culture
- Directly lead the capital engineering organization, including providing mentoring, performance management and career development direction, utilizing performance management, development and talent development review processes
- Develop and implement a strong safety awareness program with a consistent implementation of policies and procedures, including construction safety audits and safety meetings
- Establish and implement department goals and objectives, including communication of the Capital Engineering Metrics to drive a fit for purpose process.
- Active participant of the Operations Leadership Team and required activities associated with this role
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Controller team to provide project evaluation and economic analysis on the capital investments at the sites
- Ensure the successful execution of approved projects through engineering/design and construction, while integrating plant personnel to ensure results that meet the needs of the organization; monitor and control projects to meet the stated objectives and metrics and commitments
- Interface with key site and company personnel to make maximum use of available resources, such functions include, but are not limited to, other site engineering resources, purchasing, operations, systems, and business engineering, as well as equipment vendors, contracting firms
- Support operations and maintenance on an as need basis, implement new techniques and technologies, such as equipment reliability, predictive maintenance, etc. to continuously improve departments operations
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years of experience in increasingly related responsibilities in the capital project management and execution process
- Six Sigma Greenbelt (or Blackbelt) certification or equivalent experience implementing productivity / continuous improvement projects
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in the management of financial budgets, projects, troubleshooting, team building, and overall leadership sought
- Track record of successfully managing this magnitude of investments and organization
- PMP Certification desired
