SUMMARY
Working under the supervision of the physician, the Aesthetician is a skincare specialist responsible for the delivery of a variety of elective cosmetic/therapeutic services, treatments, and education to patients, designed to improve or maintain the health and appearance of the skin. The Aesthetician works to ensure that the patient is satisfied with the elective services and recommended products. Individuals employed in the position of Aesthetician will function within the scope of practice as determined by regulations of the state where the individual is employed; certification and/or registration may be required depending on the state where the individual is employed. Additional duties may be assigned to persons employed as Aestheticians.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform professional consultations regarding available services and products; determine patient skincare goals and objectives, along with a care plan to facilitate achievement of those goals

Perform patient procedures, e.g., deep pore cleansing, chemical exfoliation/peels, facials, glycolic acid peels, hair removal, laser therapy, micro-dermabrasion, skin rejuvenation, skin hydration, etc.

Provide patient education for skin care, recommending adjustments to the patient’s skincare routine as appropriate to reinforce provider’s therapy regimen and enhance patient confidence

Consult with physician concerning treatments and patient compliance or non-compliance

Accurately document in the patient’s electronic health record as required

Process correspondence and home care instructions regarding skin treatment plans; track referral sources, sending thank you letters to the source

Develop written instructions on various aspects of skin care

Maintain work areas appropriate for patient treatments and product sales, and in compliance with OSHA standards

Maintain all equipment in working condition in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, resolving any issues or reporting any problems as appropriate

Maintain a complete inventory of cosmetic/treatment products; routinely check all supplies for expiration dates

Develop a patient base through direct provider referral and marketing efforts

Develop and successfully implement a marketing plan to focus on outside target markets, contributing to marketing brochures and ads; adhere to marketing budget

Order supplies as needed; order equipment as approved

Participate in special projects and assignments such as health fairs, community events, etc.

Implement plans and direct efforts to achieve target goals for services and product sales, maximizing profitability potential

Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-service education/training

Perform other duties as required or assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Extensive knowledge of elective skin care services, treatments, and products

Ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail
-
Knowledge of ADCS policies, including quality assurance policies, OSHA, and other applicable government regulations and standards; ability to actively apply that knowledge in the performance of all job duties
-
Ability to apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control in the performance of all job duties, including the cleaning and sterilization of medical instruments in the autoclave
-
Ability to practice confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations with patient information
-
Ability to practice professional ethics and use discretion concerning ADCS directives and proprietary information/trade secrets of the organization

Ability to practice within the scope of education and training; ability to recognize a problem and effectively problem-solve, using guidance from the provider and/or management when necessary

Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to use appropriately

Ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to change

Ability to maintain high level of accuracy in all documentation and in the performance of all job duties

Skilled in typing/keyboarding; skilled in using computers
EDUCATION
-
High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
-
Certificate of completion/diploma from an approved aesthetician program required
EXPERIENCE
-
Six months of experience as an Aesthetician required; two years of experience working as an Aesthetician in a dermatology practice preferred
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONs REQUIREMENTS

Must be licensed per requirements of the state where employed, maintaining licensure per state regulations
