Job Summary

  • The American Bar Association (ABA) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Grassroots Engagement Manager to join our Governmental Affairs Office (GAO). This critical role involves supporting the Director of Grassroots and Digital Advocacy in expanding and overseeing the ABA's grassroots initiatives.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in managing advocacy campaigns, engaging with grassroots advocates, and maintaining the integrity of our grassroots database. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of advocacy efforts that impact the legal profession and society at large.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Grassroots and Digital Advocacy to develop and execute impactful social media and digital advocacy campaigns.
  • Manage and optimize the grassroots database, key contact programs, and the ABA Grassroots Action Team (GRAT) to support broader advocacy goals.
  • Assist in setting and achieving goals, identifying messaging targets, and establishing coalition partnerships.
  • Track, analyze, and report on member engagement data to refine and improve future advocacy efforts.
  • Support the planning and execution of annual association-wide advocacy events, ensuring high levels of organization and member participation.
  • Provide mentorship and training to unpaid undergraduate and law school student interns.
  • Ensure the integrity of data systems and optimize processes for tracking member information, including relationships with policymakers and staff, issue interests, and prior grassroots participation.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of experience in grassroots advocacy within a non-profit organization.
  • A minimum of three years managing data integrity and member or donor software.
  • An advanced degree and experience in government or public affairs are preferred.
  • Proven ability to create and manage digital advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in using metrics to drive campaign strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of stakeholders.

Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience

  • Advanced degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Previous experience in government or public affairs and familiarity with using social and digital media platforms for governmental advocacy and related communications.
