Housekeeping Supervisor 

Do the words Ally, Friend and Giver describe you?  If so, Touchmark at Wedgewood is looking for a skilled and caring individual to fulfil the role of Supervisor.

Reporting to the Director of Building Services, this role will plan, organize, supervise, evaluate and perform housekeeping duties.  This individual is responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the building and the bungalows.  The successful individual will be an excellent communicator and be able to communicate effectively with residents, co- workers, and the public regarding housekeeping and maintenance satisfaction.

 

Educational Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent;
  2. Two years experience in housekeeping is required;
  3. Two years of supervisory experience is required
  4. Computer proficiency is required;

 

Position Requirements:

  1. Must be qualified by experience and knowledge to plan organize, supervise, evaluate, and perform housekeeping duties;
  2. Work to maximize efficiencies
  3. Ability to plan and organize staff time, assign responsibilities, and analyze effectiveness of same;
  4. Ability to work effectively with older adults;
  5. Teach staff to be service oriented to meet resident needs;
  6. Maintain patient and tactful composure when dealing with the residents, family members, staff members, visitors, and medical personnel;
  7. Ability to make sound decisions relating to residents, staff, and company.  Reporting same to Director;
  8. Work to support, guide and mentor team members to meet or exceed Gold Standards;
  9. Willingness to perform repetitive tasks;
  10. Willingness to accept supervision and work cooperatively as a team member;
  11. Ability to work independently;
  12. Know, teach, and practice proper lifting techniques at all times;
  13. Know and train staff on proper cleaning techniques and infection control techniques;
  14. Must be qualified by experience and knowledge to supply and control equipment, procedures, products, etc. to ensure a safe and sanitary environment;
  15. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing regarding housekeeping practices;
  16. Team work within and between departments is practiced and required;
  17. Knowledge of provincial and federal regulations relating to housekeeping, laundry, janitorial, and safety of residents and staff;
  18. Sound understanding of WHIMIS and health and safety legislation and health and safety policies and work practices;
  19. Follow and promote established AHS guidelines;

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to read and write English in order to follow and give oral and written instructions;
  2. Must be able to complete required paperwork and filing with high degree of accuracy;
  3. Physically capable of turning, stooping, bending, stretching, moving equipment and performing other related tasks;
  4. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs;
  5. After receiving the appropriate training, must be able to operate standard equipment for laundry and housekeeping tasks.

 

Position Responsibilities: Including, but not limited to the following:

  1. Plan, organize, supervise, evaluate, and perform housekeeping duties;
  2. Establish daily, weekly, monthly, annual cleaning schedules and work plans for housekeeping/janitorial/laundry staff to include:  public and community areas, apartments of residents, model homes, offices and reception areas.  Inspect all on a regular basis. 
  3. Gather input and make suggestions to managers concerning area cleaning needs. 
  4. Maintain areas approximately within three feet of the building;
  5. Maintain adequate supply and control of equipment and housekeeping supplies;
  6. Order supplies and maintain strong relationships with pre-established vendors;
  7. Communicate verbally and in writing regarding sanitary housekeeping practices;
  8. Know and enforce policies and procedures regarding safe and sanitary environmental practices;
  9. Delegate responsibility in accordance with established policies;
  10. Ensure clean linens and wrinkle-free resident’s clothes;
  11. Responsible to work while under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.  Must demonstrate, at all times, cooperative behavior with co-workers and supervisors;
  12. Perform all other duties, as requested by supervisor(s), with a positive attitude.
