The Director of Purchasing is responsible for leading and executing strategic procurement initiatives, fostering key supplier relationships, and optimizing contract management processes to enhance operational efficiency while also managing individual buying activities as necessary. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution, ensuring purchasing strategies and processes that align with organizational goals to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions that support the company’s mission of excellence in senior housing development and operations.
Primary Focus Areas:
- Acquire necessary goods and services efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with Touchmark’s strategic objectives.
- Develop and maintain strategic supplier/vendor relationships.
- Manage contract development and contractual relationships and terms.
- Partner with business unit leads at Touchmark to actively seek out and drive efficient procurement behavior and programs across all functional areas of the company
Qualifications:

- Minimum seven (7) years of purchasing and logistics experience in a similar setting.
- Degree in Business or a related field; five (5) additional years of strategic sourcing and logistics experience may substitute for the degree.
- Proven experience in leading a purchasing function with a history of developing effective purchasing strategies, policies, and systems.
- Experience in implementing automation initiatives with IT, including dashboards and real-time data.
- Ability to balance high-level strategy with hands-on transactional execution.
General Responsibilities:
- Ensure departmental adherence to Touchmark Gold Standards.
- Create and implement best practice purchasing strategies, policies, and procedures to enhance business performance.
- Establish purchasing strategies that align with business objectives, focusing on price, quality, and delivery targets to maintain competitive advantage.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, leveraging Touchmark’s value to secure favorable pricing and terms.
- Manage fleet leasing program providing recommendations and opportunities anticipating needed replacements and adherence to brand standard quality for our community vehicles.
- Manage GPO relationships, working to maximize opportunities to utilize in-network vendor opportunities to maximize cost savings.
- Negotiate favorable contract terms with suppliers, ensuring alignment with cost, quality standards, and delivery requirements.
- Research and analyze community spending opportunities and recommend standardization or central purchasing strategies to achieve cost savings.
- Forecast market trends and adjust sourcing strategies accordingly.
- Negotiate long-term contracts that support inventory, quality, continuity of supply, and corporate cost objectives.
- Contribute to the company's financial goals by preparing budgets and savings forecasts and monitoring progress.
- Directly manage and coordinate the purchasing and ordering needs of goods, supplies, and services for Touchmark’s Central Office and communities to include performing individual buying activities as necessary.
- Maintain a comprehensive purchasing information database and vendor electronic files.
- Manage procurement system, ordering guides and receiving processes for community operations monitoring compliance and adherence to company standards.
- Implement corporate purchasing programs and recommend cost-effective procedures to senior management.
- Communicate market changes and their potential impacts on supply, proposing solutions that maintain quality and service while refining costs.
- Assess possible vendor or supply chain risks and prepare risk mitigation strategies.
- Perform vital oversight, review and approval of purchases, as identified in Touchmark’s expense authorization and purchasing processes.
- Develop inventory control systems and tracking mechanisms to optimize on-hand materials and reduce lost inventory.
- Contribute to new business initiatives and assess their impact on purchasing activities.
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset by streamlining and automating processes, collaborating with IT on dashboards and real-time data initiatives.
- Oversee and administer purchasing/negotiation training processes of key decision makers across the company.
- Regularly report out to management team, key trends, vendor management, strategic focus areas and KPI’s.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including regular and reliable attendance.
